It's interesting to me how passionate people are about this. Personally, I don't watch the intermission/pregame/postgame stuff as to me its just boring cliche stuff (but each to their own). As long as the PBP and Colour people are competent and its in HD I'm happy.
When I was younger I probably would have cared more about these other issues though.

If Bieksa is gone - I would be shocked if TNT hasn't picked him up for their show. They try to recreate the NBA show and have fun on it with the guys chirping at each other, etc. I suspect he'd be a good fit there.

Ya no where does it say they are actually gone. I have to think besides RM, it would be wise to keep the rest of the panel. It’s really the only reason i tune in between periods.

There’s no conspiracy. As long as he’s the biggest star in the NHL, the media will gush about McDavid every chance they get. And when Bedard tops the scoring race, they’ll move on to raving about him in every broadcast. It’s their job.
I can’t imagine how much people around here would have griped about unfairness back when Gretzky was suiting up for the Oilers. How dare SNL invite Gretzky to host the show instead of Hakan Loob!

Yes, but honestly I don't ever remember panels gushing over Iggy in his prime like they do with McD.
And Iggy was so easy to love, checked all the right boxes. Sports broadcasting has changed.

I used to like intermission panels, and segments like Satellite Hotstove and Coach's Corner.
I want to like it again, but it's done nothing but get worse. That's why I am opinionated - I want to like it again.

They should have shot that weasel McLean years ago. I despise him, and in terms of his work he's an awful host.
Bieksa would be a shame, I hated him as a player, but he's been very good in his time with HNIC.
Maybe they're going to go to a AI based commentating system and intermission situation

I did too, the thing but the Satellite Hot Stove use to be the one time a week we got “insider information”. Thankfully that is no longer the case. Of course Coach’s Corner was just to hear what would come out of Cherry’s mouth next, the segment got worse and worse.
Now I couldn’t care less about pre/ post game and intermission content. The worst is when they haul out the net, grab some sticks and try to recreate some of the in game action, absolutely laughable.

8 years and all McDavid has shown to be is a regular season stats padder who can't elevate a team when it matters. He's also become more of a PP specialist over time, but particularly in big games. The likes of Kostin and Yamamoto (now gone) did the heavy lifting 5 on 5 at key times most recently.
But for some reason they're still hyping him to be something more than he is, despite being hardware-less in the post season.
Leon has been far and away the better playoff performer.
It's pretty much delirium at this point, and people banging that drum still should be looked down upon.
McDavid has become overrated.

Sportsnet is stupid, TNT would have a home run if they picked up Biesksa and PK and just had them chirp every game.

This pretty much sums up my feelings. I'll add that I hate the fake chummy/joking vibe that some modern broadcasters on panels try to do as it makes my skin crawl for some reason.
Also, interviews with 99.9% of players are a reason to change the channel. They just speak in cliches and have been so media schooled that they never have anything interesting to say. I don't know how you fix or if you even should bother investing in fixing it honestly. Heck, I may not even be the demographic they are trying to appeal to.

Bieksa and Hrudy are the only ones I liked really.
I know many hate Hrudy but I think he is genuine and has some decent insights that are objective.

Yeah.. They still do the marek/Friedman segment during the intermission which is basically satellite hot stove. It's just now 99% of the info is already on the internet so no one cares about it.

And meantime, we're probably going to end up with another 30 games of Cassie Campbell, who is likely one of the worst commentators in the sport. It's actually impressive that she's done it for so long, yet has found the determination and talent to not improve one single iota.
Merit has nothing to do with these decisions, it's all politics and kiss assery. I'd take Jennifer Boterill over Cassie for colour any day of the week. She's excellent on the panel.

I like the panel as it is and have always liked Ron Maclean. I never realized until I started coming to CP that there was such hate for him. I have a lot of respect for broadcasters since I used to work in that industry.

He is terrible, he has become the opposite of Jack Edwards for the Flames. Send him to call Oiler games where his real heart lies. His off topic comments are just cringe bad too. Millen is way more enjoyable to listen to.

Nah. #### Ron Maclean. All he's done since leaving CC is interject during game panels to talk about things from 40-50 years ago with absolutely no context so no one understands him and cheerlead/overhype the Oilers.
You'll even notice he contributes to none of the discussion on other teams players and just waits his turn to bring up McDavid again.
He's a washed up rambler whose only asset in recent times is the familiarity of his face from much better days on the program.

I love sports fandom so much. We get these comments about Hrudey on CP, then you follow Oilers comments on Hrudey when he does the BOA and it's all "**** Hrudey just gushing over the Flames all game, he can't call anything objectively when it's Flames/Oilers".
