Pelletier is clearly a left winger, whereas, Honzek has sometimes been listed at centre. The communists have taken over if Pelletier wins this.

Honzek is two Pelletiers in a trench coat.

I very much doubt that anyone has forgotten this, and Honzek was on a +100-point pace prior to his skate cut.

If you are in love with size then maybe Honek has a higher ceiling but they both were projected at their draft as 2nd/3rd line NHL upside.

The Flames compared Honzek to Rantanen, and clearly see him as having top-line upside. He is huge, skates very well, has an incredible shot—there is A LOT to like there.

One player is very close to achieving that while the other hasn't even played a full season in the CHL. It's definitely a shiny new thing effect going on here but I get it.
LOL. No. Believe it or not there are some posters who truly believe that Honzek will be the superior player, and they are basing their decisions on that.

I dont think you can argue anyone going with either player here. Honzek may be the better player, Pelletier has proven a lot in the A and is NHL ready. Two great prospects here, time will tell.

I based my vote on the extremely specific criteria of "number of ceiling lights broken at rookie dev camp" which is 1-0 Honzek.

But I do think Honzek has higher upside, and based on his skill set and attributes could still be 1st line potential. I don't see Pelletier having 1st line potential, 2/3 seems to be realistic. I understand choosing either player though

Now who’s gonna go do advanced analytics and see who switched their vote between round 3 and the runoff?

He is a man playing with boys. The question is whether his skills translate? I think it's early to know and it would be beneficial to see at least a year if not more to see some progress before calling him one of our top prospects. Would like to see him against some pros before elevating him above some of the guys that have shown growth in the pros. We've seen how quickly the blush can come off a player's rose in these ratings by looking at Zary and Kerins hitting the professional wall.
And Pelletier would have been a 2nd or maybe even 3rd rounder in that draft.

Is that enough of a difference to offset the other skill factors? Is it enough of a difference to even have any statistical meaning?

I love Pelletier, but Honzek all day here. Also, shiny new toy has absolutely nothing to do with it. Honzek is a faster, bigger, stronger, better shooting Pelletier. That's why I pick him ahead of Pelletier. Seems like I am disparaging Pelletier, but I am very high on Pelletier too and have been for a few years. I think he will be a future captain of the Calgary Flames. I kind of look at Pelletier as almost a 'Landeskog-Lite' - captain, does everything to win, versatile, etc.,. However, I look at Honzek more like a MacKinnon (or as Conroy mentioned, Rantanen), so I have to rank Honzek higher. This prospect has very little holes in his game, and he is a relentless beast out there.

With that being said, I wouldn't call anyone's picks crazy (unless you are just trying to troll). Morin, Poirier, Yegorov, Stromgren, Suniev, "some other guy" - who knows what happens with development? Sometimes you have players like Emile Poirier who have all the tools to become great players, but their careers get obliterated due to other issues. Sometimes injuries happen and wipe out a player like what happened to Daniel Tkazuk, or even Mitch Wahl for those that remember. Sometimes lower picks just take gigantic steps forward and rise to the top - Gaudreau, Brodie and Ferland all come to mind for me.

These lists are always fun to look back on. What is just as fun is watching people freak out and try to diminish other posters' opinions in the most irrelevant of ways. Just pick the player who you think you should pick in each round, and if you feel up to it, post about why you think this player deserves to be ranked ahead of the remaining player available. That's what I do. Unless you are picking Koumontzis here just for laughs, then there is no wrong opinion. Part of the fun is reading about the perceived strengths and weaknesses of these prospects. What is not fun is reading comments about "You are doing this all wrong, stupid!".

Just pick your guy, and have fun.

Honzek has a much higher ceiling and better tools

Until he proves otherwise Pelletier is still trending towards a 3rd liner

Well, Pelletier went on to have 37, 42 NHLe seasons in the AHL. And he looked great to me in the NHL last season. We don’t know what Honzek will do. I think it is significant because everyone is saying that Honzek has a higher ceiling based on his draft year, and that Pelletier is simply the safer pick. But Pelletier had a higher NHLe in his draft year.

Yeah I'd say there is just more of a question mark with Honzek.

We've seen Pelly really produce in the AHL and appear to be a good fit on the Flames roster.

We just don't have that same production to match obviously.

But that's my only hesitation putting Honzek above Pelletier today.

whether you correctly chose Pelts or incorrectly chose Honzek, all that matters is that we stay united as a fanbase....

and choose Poirier next

I've never really had Pelletier ranked higher than Xary or Coronato in the past so I swung my zary vote to Honzek. Although I really didn't do enough pre draft homework on Hinzek to really understand his game either. But his good skating and size are a big plus.

I like the Flames top 5, not elite but I believe they'll all be strong NHLers for many years to come.
