Apparently Nimmala’s MLB comparable is Carlos Correa and he has a very high ceiling but also a relatively low floor. Being of Indian descent is pretty neat and hopefully he can help build the game with Indo Canadians.
Definitely an intriguing pick.

I believe in the Jays.

Not bad, not bad... you can see the Correa starter package in the clips. HS kids always cost more in Bonus Pool money so I hope they did they're homework and can moneyball a few hidden gems in rounds 3-10.

Not a whole lot of reaching thus far in day two of the draft... either the Jays are confident that they can get Nimmala signed at or near slot value or they're going to be signing a few guys for hotdog bonuses.
I'd expect some senior signs coming soon.

Sat Row 8 behind the Jays Dugout for that one. The Jays fans around me were letting Schneider have it until Jano took Lange deep in the 9th. Sweet to be there for an Extra Inning Victory

Hmmm Guerrero wins the HR derby.
I'm pretty sure we were being told in this thread he isn't anything special....
Weird.

Congrats Vladdy Jr !!
Thought he was going to tire out but instead he stepped up in the final only minutes after his semi-final appearance and crushed a bunch.
Fun to see Schneider as his pitcher too.

He’s a generational talent when it comes to hitting BP.
Kidding aside, hope it gives him confidence to tear it up in the second half. I think he needs to stop trying to kill the ball but also just focus on hitting home runs. Sounds counter intuitive but I think he could hit 50 home runs averaging 350’ instead of trying to hit 40 500’.

This is what still gives me hope that Vladdy can still be a consistent 6+ fWAR player. He has elite power and he seems to stay relatively healthy.
Starting to doubt his baseball IQ though, and his ability to adjust at the plate.

I honestly thought he would struggle yesterday so it was fun to watch. The video of him as a kid attending his dads derbies were awesome to watch. The guy truly seems to love baseball and being around the park.
That said the Jays need him to be better, he seems to be frustrated in gaems making bad decisions. Too often seems to be guessing at the plate and pitchers have figured this out. Unfortunately also in the Jays lineup he has almost no consistent support behind him which doesn’t help him out.

Lol. We are a calendar year from the same peanut gallery saying Bichette should be traded and isn't a great player.

I adore when you make your yearly appearance in this thread just to #### on the people who watch night in and night out. Fans get frustrated and vent on a message board. Shocking I know. Doesn't stop them from showing up and supporting the team. A lot more enjoyable than childish drive by's.

Vlad had 6.3 fWAR in 2021, 2.8 fWAR in 2022 and is on pace for 0.9 fWAR in 2023
Of course some Jays fans are concerned lol
Hopefully he gets hot for the rest of the season

The sample size for Vlad as a very good player is getting significantly larger than the sample size of him as an elite player. He had an OPS+ of 134 last year and 120 this year which is definitely not in the top tier of players. I see him as struggling to handle the adjustments that teams have made to him. There are entire departments within teams who are there to find gaps in players’ approaches and Guerrero so much raw talent that, in the past, he hasn’t needed to adjust his approach/swing to adapt to the changes that the opponents have made. Is he capable of doing it? Hopefully…but it is taking a very long time. The Jays (particularly this year) also didn’t do him any favours in terms of putting a guy behind him to help get him good pitches. Chapman shouldn’t be hitting behind Vlad but there isn’t another option.
For the Jays to contend for the World Series, they need him to be a lot closer to the 167 OPS+ guy that he was in 2021. Stats from 2021 have an additional variable in that the team played a significant portion of their games in non-major league stadiums.
