Watching the news and seeing this story play out is embarrassing for the media and for everybody who's ultra concerned with why people at a public event are taking photos with people wearing a potentially offensive shirt. News flash, plenty of people have stupid shirts and clothing styles, are we suppose to be issuing trigger warnings for all the softies here? Do we want our political leaders having to now send out press releases that "insert leader does not agree with this person's cause"
In other countries, the media tries to do the job of what's going on with the money, who's benefiting? Where's the corruption? What's happening with the government? You know, holding people to account about the things that really matter?
Instead people are losing their minds about some shirt on some guy next to a Premier and a federal party leader. This is politics I guess. That's the story that leads headlines.
I guess the story that Calgary and Alberta used to be governed by 2 rumored gay men at the same time probably doesn't attract as much attention I guess.

Nobody is “ultra concerned” about a t-shirt, nobody is “losing their mind” about it. This being something that gets casually talked about in no-way makes it difficult to talk about “things that really matter.”
I don’t think Canadians are a stupid bunch. I do, however, believe that people who sensationalize what is a fairly mild negative reaction and can largely be summed up as “par for the course,” while spitting out mindless nonsense about triggers warnings, “softies,” and say things like “news flash” as though they have a single truth about the world that anyone would consider novel or remotely unheard of, are 100% guilty of dumbing down the discourse and really making Canadians seem stupid.
It’s tough to take you seriously when you use the kind of language that makes it clear you’re the target audience for this nonsense. There’s nothing respectable about muttering “we used to be a proper country” because people talked about something you don’t care about. Time to grow up.

It's a random picture, not endorsing everything everybody says or wears.
Remember some of the conservative and liberal outrage when Trudeau was photobombing weddings, being shirtless etc? Small time potatoes but people get worked up over it. No reason to.
Stephen Harper, a noted Flames and Leafs fan would never be photographed wearing his team's jerseys for fear of offending other fan bases. He wore team Canada. Personally a big fan of his. Trudeau, I admire for having the gut's to proudly wear his Hab's jersey as he's a fan. Not worried about offending other's.
People shouldn't be worked up over the little things like a t-shirt that guy was wearing. Context matters and being even across the board is also important too. If another politician took the same picture, it's ok too. It's a picture, not an endorsement

At the end of the day, the picture of t-shirt buddy is just a t-shirt. I have been around plenty of these style events. Worked events where significant VIP's are present, had my photo taken with some of the biggest athletes in the world. A lot of the times it's mayhem and there is a million things happening.
This wasn't a commercial with a thousand takes. People come up, start yapping away about how much taller/shorter/better looking you are in person. "ohh my god, I voted for you" "Your the best (insert job) in the world" "Let me facetime my mother, she loves you" Take another, I don't want my eyes closed" "Do you know so and so from your hometown"
People are grabbing you strangely, telling you odd details, hyper ventilating "ohh I have never met anybody famous"
All this stuff is going on and people are expecting these people read and analyze everything at every event including basic clothing choices? It wasn't like this guy wearing a crazy costume or anything. If he wasn't in front of you, you would never think about his shirt from across the street in a packed venue like the Stampede.
It's just a shirt and a picture that happened in a split second. Like I said before, not an endorsement.

Except the UCP have endorsed viewpoints like these and people with viewpoints like these, in turn, endorse the UCP.
What are you even talking about?

About famous people/political people being photographed or taking selfies with stupid people who may or may not be wearing stupid things? I think that is the issue.
If your specific concern is with this specific issue and how it applies to which ever political person you want, than that's fine but than you have to accept the same hypocrisy if it comes from which ever side or political person you support.
Case in point. Justin Trudeau, a staunch Catholic personally opposes abortion but politically and democratically believes in the right of choice. It's not for you or anybody else to question his personal, religious beliefs.
Barack Obama personally believes or believed in marriage being between a man and a women. Yes, as they are traditionally and historically have been discussed without much in the way of interpretation.
Does that mean that Trudeau and Obama can't be photographed with a pride flag or next to an anti abortion poster? People's views evolve. Doesn't mean we need to cancel them looking back on it.
Harper thought that the abortion had been settled by the courts and public opinion and didn't try to reopen the debate.
People can point Jason Kenney as having done some damage within the LGBTQ community 100% Ironic considering his personal story. I don't know if the same can be said personally about Danielle Smith and I am not her biggest fan. T-shirt picture not withstanding.
What TC was trying to do in this thread was show the hypocrisy a lot of posters have and being on different and opposite sides of similar issues.
I don't get the impossible standards people are trying to set for these types of things across all political lines. It's literally a 1 second picture. If you care to share with us who your preferred political leaders are we can keep a watchful eye out for any damage control with undesirables in the vicinity for full accountability purposes. Personally I think almost all PIGS have the same noses but that's me.
Pages of discussion about a goof in a t-shirt next to another goof who probably won't be around in 2-3 years.

Does anybody actually think that Danny and Pierre didn't pose with this idiot on purpose because of his shirt? It's straight from their playbook.
And it's one of the main reasons why there may never be another federal conservative government in power in this country.

Why are you obsessed with talking about the t-shirt if you don’t think it’s an issue? You’ve contributed more content to the discussion than anyone else so far.
How about talking about the more important issues out there that you’re aware of?

Dude, it's literally 10 words on a bright green shirt. If our premier can't instantly take that in and realize WTF is going on, I don't want her to be our premier. But even I'm not willing to believe she is that dumb, which means she knew exactly what this bigot is about.
The rest of your post is claptrap. If you can't see the problem with a "straight pride" shirt in the world we live in today, then I revert to my original statement, "You really just don't understand the issue, do you?" Step away and go do some research. Be better.

I’m pretty sure this is the “assaulting a fish” poster, isn’t it? I doubt he’s encountered an issue he’s been able to get a handle on, ever.
EDIT: Actually I looked it up and that was a different poster, but honestly the fact that they’re interchangeable in my head says it all.

I actually feel bad for people who support/share Cory Morgan tweets. Imagine thinking doing so is going to give your argument credibility... yikes. Just absolute cringe.

My question is where were the handlers for Smith. They should have spotted that guy and had him removed. Ignorant people will look at these pics and say that both leaders are against the LGBTQ community.
As for the green shirt guy, he used that political environment to promote his views as if they are they are standard accepted views.

That's my point. The handlers have their marching orders. They were, obviously, aware of the shirt and knew their bosses wanted to be pictured with the guy.
It's not ignorance knowing that Smith and Pollievre cater to and feed this red meat to a significant portion of their base. How they feel personally is irrelevant. Nothing that comes out of either of their mouths should be taken at face value (like any politician)
