Look at a typical St. Georges lineup and its almost always 50% Asian/Indian background.
St. Georges is the most expensive (by far) hockey sports school in the CSSHL.
It is definitely changing.

I'd like to see stats on NHL draft picks.
I bet a vast majority of them come from these programs, and do not come from conventional minor hockey.
I always laugh when they interview players during Heritage Classics, and Winter Classics and ask them about the feeling about playing outside and the nostalgia.
I bet modern day NHL players spent a grand total of 0 hours playing outdoors.
Who needs to shovel off a crappy pond and get frostbite when you get prime time ice every day after school?

You are definitely correct. When the president of Hockey Calgary sends his kid to sports school you know something is up.
The team Iginla coached this year (U15 Prep Rink Kelowna) costs ~ $40k per year.
St. Georges is ~$80k.
Look at the last WHL Draft, probably 75% chosen are sport schools. Nine of the top ten are CSSHL.
https://whl.ca/draft
Its all a pyramid scheme though, the top 3 kids on every team are funded by the rest of the team's parents. I bet Bedard hasn't had to pay a cent for hockey in the past 5 years and probably longer.

Yikes, you hope it’s not true but sadly it probably is.

All these criticisms are the same of all elite sport. Basketball, swimming, golf, tennis etc.. it's all super expensive. The only one where high costs don't seem to factor as much into success is football.

TSN and similar networks have a complicated relationship with the sports/leagues that they cover. People tune into sports to get away from the horrors of everyday life. If you expect these networks to invest tons of resources against their own best interests, you should probably just get over your disappointment.

So does Methot.
Quoting two people who work for TSN and are talking about an issue and then criticizing TSN for not talking about an issue is absurd lol.

And hardly any of the actual reporters are ex-hockey players or otherwise insiders in the junior scene, at least at that depth. and if one reporter has the story others aren't going to climb over him, either.
This list (which doesn't have Methot) only has Jeff O'Neill and Jamie McLennan as far as I can see who were ex-players.

Maybe shade could be thrown at Sportsnet for ignoring this issue. TSN is the one who has exposed it.

I think what Methot was describing is probably indicative of the cycle of abuse. Those 19 and 20 year olds doing it to the younger kids, probably experienced the same thing when they were the younger kids. It's inexcusable no matter what, but it shows how abuse is normalized in some of these organizations.
I remember in grade 8, we went on a school trip and one of the kids that I was grouped with tried to coerce another kid to do something disgusting. I won't get into the details, but it is along the same lines of the stuff you hear about. Myself and another kid were like, wtf why, and the kid said that they did it on his hockey team. That is when we were 13. That kid ended up playing in the OHL.

They are already talking contract extension with him, I have feeling he is not involved in this.
