Yeah, but the problem for Phillips is that he cannot play the same sort of game as Gaudreau. He is just nowhere nearly as skilled, and much of his AHL success comes from his fearlessness and his ability to grind in high-traffic. I don't think he can succeed playing that same game at the NHL level. He's not as fast as Gaudreau, not as good on his edges, and he doesn't think the game at the same speed (frankly, who does?) THAT'S how Gaudreau overcame the disadvantage of his stature and weight.

To add to this point. Gaudreau could also be trusted to cover top line players. While D-fence was far from his strong suit he was far from a liability. To put that in perspective his career +/- is better than Draistaitl's

If you believe that you’ll believe anything. The guy is shorter than Pelletier by a good margin and built like Oliver Twist. The only way he weighs 165 is if he’s holding a 20 pound plate while on the scale.

Beauty for Phillips today, playing on a line with Strome:

Kind of goal he has to keep scoring to stick out from the pack.

Milano to Phillips haha. It would be so Flames for Phillips to pop this year. I really don’t think he does, but it would fit with the Flames story arc so well.

Losing good, young players for nothing and paying to take on overpaid problems is a Flames tradition that transcends an arc, it's a series that's been going on longer than The Simpsons.

Age is a relative thing ... I routinely see Duehr cited as one of the Flames' young players and he's seven months older than Phillips.
Anyway, no need to rehash the old arguments. Good to see Phillips put up a multi-point game. Could see him sticking on that line to start the season.

Am I so old and crusty that 25 seems super young to me now?

As a Flames, once you hit a certain age, you're gonna be considered slow and a shell of the former self. Gotta trade them before the value is totally lost!

I think this was his best outing as a Cap. The previous game I heard he was kind of invisible.

He led the Caps with four shots in his first game but he was also on for two goals against. This was a significant improvement. Two points, another four shots, and 18:25 TOI against the Red Wings' A squad.

Looking at the Caps roster, I think he'll make the team. They need to fill out their team with league min contracts just to get under the cap and they don't have a many great options.

That's definitely not invisible. Where'd you hear that, GioforPM?

I like the kid, and I believe he didn't get a fair shake here, but I'm not losing sleep over losing him. I still doubt he'll amount to much.

He's just so small at the NHL level that he looks like one of the "small" players from a 90's hockey video game.
