-RHC Oskar Sundqvist: Ok, he's older at 29 years old, but he's 6'3",210lb two-way player with a grinding, physical game.

-LW Danton Heinen: 27 years old, but he's an all-purpose player with excellent skating and some offensive touch.

-RW/LW Noah Gregor: He was rumoured to be coming to Calgary from the Sharks last season. 24 years-old, 6'0",185lbs. Gregor is an Alberta-boy, and his biggest asset might be his speed. He was a very productive player in junior, but he's still trying to put it all together in the big leagues. He's got good offensive instincts, and his defensive game is coming along- I've read a few articles over the course of his career to date that showed advanced stats that suggest that there's much more lurking under the surface offensively. Gregor plays physically, and is not afraid of going to the greasy areas of the ice.

-LHC Jesper Boqvist: Drafted in the second-round of 2017 (36th overall) by Jersey, and has been sqeezed out by all the talent there. He's 24 years old, 6'0" tall, and has smarts and speed. They may have given up on him too quick.
All great options. Would love Boqvist or Sundqvist. Both could be 3rd line studs for us. Decent Backlund replacement.

What would you offer? I respect your opinion more than most.

If you look at the Percentage of Cap thread it shows how difficult it is to pay people. Maybe a trade would be better?

Boqvist would be a great addition. Still young and probably has solid middle six upside at center.

Boqvist and Sundqvist signed 1-year, 1mish deals and Backlund traded at 50% would be ideal for me.

I want to re-listen to get the specific wording because Conroy said a lot.
He can say it won’t be a “deterrent” but I think it will. Calgary massively underperformed last year. Not hard to imagine that they could be in a playoff spot half way through season. Would be hard on remaining players if these guys are shipped out at deadline , while being in a playoff spot. Not to mention media constantly asking questions about contract status.

I'd take Gurianov just for walking around the Oilers defense like he did when he was in Dallas.

Also sped past Hanifin once.

Pressure might be on Islanders to get something done after losing out on debrincat. Talk of needing a plan B and writer linking Hanifin to isles.

I 100% agree with your thinking, and it is something that has worried me too, as most of the toughness has left in the last 2 seasons. I am ok with mot of those choices you listed, other than Lemieux. He certainly feels much more like a future Canuck to me to add to their list of biters.

I think its a mistake going into a season with 3-4 guys on the roster who have expressed no desire to want to be here/return. I understand contractually they are obligated to be on the team but that wouldn't fit Conroys previous emphasis on "wanting guys who want to be here"

I understand the market might not be good, but I feel that could potentially bleed into locker room issues again, and might be part of the toxicity that was expressed last year.

I hope they take care of this stuff before the season starts.

Islanders were recently ranked 31 of 32 by Byron Bader for their prospect pool. I think Bolduc (6'4" LHD) might be of interest in a Hanifin trade but not much else there.

I think Conroy hopes to get things done before camp too ...

But I'd rather have another off year than give away assets for pennies on the dollars to bring harmony to the room.

Agreed, the risk is a couple of them will leave without anything in return

I can see it already Flames are in the wild card race, few points up and the deadline approaches.

Do they sell.....

The only player who expressed he wanted out was Toffoli and he is gone.

Hanifin would be the only other player who has said he wont stay but I can't see him causing any issues in the room.

The remainder no one has expressed wanting out, Lindholm has been reluctant to commit but he is also negotiating, I would see no reason to enter negotiations with him if he expressed a desire to leave.

I thought Backlund has also expressed desire not to resign?

Lindholm situation is obvious

If the prices aren’t there, they aren’t there. They’ll be worth 3x more at the trade deadline when the purse strings open up.

I think Lindholm signs, he’s be silly to risk a major down season/injury and a lot of money.

The percentage of cap thread is not a blueprint to be followed. Reality is nothing like a spreadsheet where everyone slots in where they should, for the amount they should.

Players progress and regress. And their pay tracks along with that. You either pay guys what they're worth, or you lose them. And constantly losing guys, because you have some meaningless formula that you are trying to track, is no way to run a franchise.

This is a contract we should see more of. Hope this sets a new trend. Enough of the boat anchor contracts.

Predict lindholm signs (for too much), and Backlund follows suit because it signals the Flames are still "going for it"

Hanifin is traded around training camp time
