I wonder how much more patients the Saudis have with Musk. It's one thing to burn your own $44 billion, but I think we sometimes forget he has other investors. Probably wondering exactly where the ROI is going to come from.

Meanwhile Threads has over 100m users. It's been very fast, and for my circle that I was interested in on Twitter, I'd guess that the majority of accounts have moved over.

Threads needs work. It really needs several features (hashtags and a more customizable UI most notably). It'll be a nice option once I get content from the people I follow and not the backfill of Instagram influencers that currently clog my feed.

I think he'd actually have a better chance suing the old board for doing that. Apparently they paid over 80MM less than an hour before getting replaced...

But weren't they getting paid for a successful completion of the job they were payed to do? I know if I had done work for a company that was about to be owned by Elon "cheque is in the mail" Musk I'd be making sure I had the money before he took over, too. With the board gone at midnight, it had to happen then or not at all. And becuase this firm was making sure Elon did something he didn't want to do, and he could already see was a huge financial mistake, Elon would not have any interest in paying them after.

not sure Threads is the answer either. Having the option between a Musk platform and a Zuckerberg platform feels like the South Park episode where the kids had to choose between a turd sandwich and a giant ######.

Look at the content Musk is not just allowing, but promoting and also saying himself.
Zuckerberg is very flawed to be sure, but way more preferable. not a tough choice at all.

although my choice is way easier. I choose to not have a Twitter or Threads/Instagram account.

I completely agree regarding Musk, but Facebook is also a huge culprit when it comes to disinformation in spreading violence and hatred around the world. Take the Myanmar situation for example, Facebook has played a big role in promoting violence against the Rohingya there.Not to mention Meta's, let's say, "questionable" habit of collecting data etc.

Musk being a turd sandwich doesn't mean Zuckerberg isn't a giant ######.

Threads may not be the answer but it is clear by its uptake that there is a pretty large demand for a Twitter alternative.
