Can I get your opinion on the long term viability of the league?

For a guy who says he is quitting the CFL you sure are posting a lot in this thread.

I love me some optimism but... when you know they're gonna run over and over again and you still can't stop the run... oh man...
As for the QB position I agree it's time to shorten the leash on Maier and give Stevens more snaps...
If this really is the first time in 18 years that the Stamps miss the playoffs, all I can say is it's been a heck of a ride, we've been very spoiled for a very long time. When you take for granted that your team will win 13+ games every year as an annual tradition, you know you've been cheering for the model franchise in the CFL. Eventually though, things will revert back to the mean and your team will have some struggles. It's an inevitable part of sports. There are ebbs and flows. No team stays a contender permanently.

Yeah, tonight. You post like I'm excited to quit like a poster excited to announce their exit in hopes of sadness and "come back!!!" posts. I'm posting because I followed this league since I was a kid and wanted so badly for it to flourish.
I've stood by, mildly complaining while fans brushed aside any criticism of ticket prices/product and chose to focus solely on the game like it was thriving, while it was clearly faltering.
Then extra factors came into play like Covid and second tier leagues in the US and I knew the CFL was toast with it's aging fan base. They did next to nothing to bring in new/young fans, instead just relying on their 35-60 year old fans......ridiculous move, utterly absurd and directionless by this league over the past decade and a half. And it cost them the league we grew up loving.

Please do not misunderstand where my anger/sadness comes from. I am defeated and saddened by the death of the CFL. Don't post like I'm some bandwagoner making a dramatic statement because my team lost tonight. This is not that.

Winnipeg has a tough defence but Maier is struggling. Six targets to Marken Michel and one completion. Eleven targets to Odoms-Dukes and only 5 completions. He completed 75% of his passes last year and he’s not even close to that this year. Wonder if he’s just trying too hard or if he’s struggling with being the QB1.
Good thing we have Sask next followed by Ottawa.

Honestly is Maier any better than Cornelius? 1-3 record and 2 TD's to 6 INT's. Pretty tough to win with stats like that from your starter. Since CFL defenses caught up to this offense he's struggling more and more every week.

I've been a huge Dickenson supporter but it's likely the end of his time as HC. They've got Kilam waiting or how about Ryan Phillips from BC.

Pathetic team is pathetic. I look forward to the Stamps being the first team to lose in Edmonton to the Elks.

Oh Bobbi, this isn't even close to some of the horrific teams that the Stamps put on the field. And I'm not even talking the Feterik years.

Yeah the team isn't the worst it's just looking really bad because it the poor QB play.
CFL is a passing league and when your QB could probably be beaten out by high school players you have an issue.
We have zero threat of a deep ball because of his noodle arm and poor accuracy. Makes it easy to jam to receivers and clog to the run game when it becomes apparent we have no other game plan.
You get those huge run plays but we don't use play action or attempt to go deeo because we can't.
At this point I'd given Stevens a shot because at least he can run and with Mills we can control some of the game with the college option.

So I did have a cheer moment for the bombers last night as the play they ran for the long td at the end of the half is in my Bantam playbook and we call it an X/Y pump, where we show a short route come back screen with the wide outs, and the QB pumps it, then hits the slot on a outside wheel route. At our level it works almost every time, but we set it up by running an actual X/Y screen.

So you are saying that the Stamps are roughly as good as a Bantam team... seems about right.

If you go to Stevens you have to substantially adjust your playbook as he is even less of a threat through the air. I think it’s too early to go to the third stringer Reynolds as he’s a 1st year rookie. Going to have to ride Maier for a bit more — at the very least they need to lean on the running game and start working in Stevens in a Streveler-type package to get the offence going and let the defence have a rest.
Really would have been nice to have signed Dane Evans in the off-season, but it is what it is. The reality is that our top two playmakers from last year (Carey and Henry) are injured and Begelton isn’t 100% either.

While I understand the NFL making the rules easier to keep more QBs and the shift to a more mobile style of QB versus the pure pocket passers of the past make it tough to get the same level of QB in the past, but at the same time high schools and colleges have moved towards offenses that should favor the CFL game. There are way more athletes at QB than ever before.
I know that there are probably players that might have no interest in playing in the CFL and it isn't exactly a way to become rich, but it seems like there should be enough QBs out there that Calgary isn't stuck with a guy that can't accurately throw more than 5 yards downfield.
