Don't love or hate Threads yet, but it's going to be brutal once ads start to pop up - especially if they're anywhere as prevalent as Instagram

Love or hate Threads, Twitter is getting roasted. It's actually a surprising mass exodus.

Twitter will be around a long time after Threads is gone.
Threads will be the same lap dog site Twitter was pre Elon that censored things contrary the masters wishes.
Who on earth would want to be spoon fed only one side of arguments?

Threads is pretty brutal so far. Algorithmic garbage pushed into your feed, and opening the app kicks you to the top and you have no idea what you missed from people you follow. At the least the way it handles photos inline is pretty nice. It has a long way to go before I'll use it regularly.

Had an idea!

End of the day regardless of what we think about either site, the idea of Twitter or Threads or any other option is a good one, and competition on the market is a good thing and hopefully makes all parties get their #### together in offering a service that works properly.

In this long form Twitter post, I will explain why it's a good thing actually that Nazis, Nazi-adjacent users and Nazi talking points are constantly assaulting your feed.
Firstly, we need to secure a future for White Children.

Threads is only bad because of the foolishness of its design. It’s not like Twitter is some shining beacon of hope on planet earth, it’s a cesspool filled with scumbags and racists but it also has funny people and a good UI (at least when Elon isn’t screwing it up with his ineptitude)
Threads just blows. I don’t know anything about a mass exodus from Twitter, if it takes off with anyone it’ll be the old dads and wine moms that already live on Instagram who will follow it out of brand loyalty. There’s a lot of “I don’t know anyone who voted for Nixon” in here. Our little worlds are not the greater user base.

I don't think it's just a design issue. The advantage Threads has in becoming quickly populated is bringing people in from Instagram, but most people on Instagram aren't people whose thoughts you actually want to read or discuss. So, the content available isn't great so far. I'm coming to really dislike it already.

All the big brands and personalities are making the leap. Threads is definitely taking off in ways that Mastodon, Bluesky, etc, etc did not.
Twitter might be not be dead yet, but this doesn't look great for Elon.

I am not loving Threads, however all it takes is another "Rate limit exceeded" issue from Twitter during free agent day and I'll move over permanently.

Threads promises to eventually port to the Fediverse via ActivityPub, Bluesky will be it's own proprietary Authenticated Transfer (AT) protocol.

Is it stupid to suggest going directly to the sites you regularly visit when you want to?
You like journalism, find a site you respect and pay them $10 a month to stay open.
You like sports, find a message board.
You like movies, there have been six good ones made in the last 11 years, and five of them were made by Tarantino or Nolan.
You like hoes, Instagram them.
You wanna start a revolution, use print. Don’t base it online because the people you’re trying to overthrow can shut off. (And if you live in the first world, don’t start a revolution - you won’t like what you get)

Threads is objectively bad. It may not die because Meta is willing to throw cash at it but it is in no way a Twitter killer. Best case scenario it’s a minor thorn and quasi competitor. It cannot replace Twitter for breaking news which is kind of what most of the non terminally online world uses Twitter for. Your feed is more people you don’t follow Than anything else, you can’t search for content, and if you scroll by something it’s gone.
I’m terribly sorry to say this but it blows huge donkey #### and is a waste of everyone’s time.

Careful with Threads. There is no deleting your account without deleting your instagram account as well. They are essentially one and the same. If there is no web version I will not sign up just yet. I hate FB apps on my phones.

To paraphrase a Twitter post I saw earlier, Threads looks and feels like a fake social media app in a teen thriller movie.

Exactly. And maybe it'll make Elon try to actually make the app strong and attractive again, instead of just messing with people for the sake of messing with people because he knew there was no real competition.

It's day 1, so I'm not expecting perfection. It's impressive a big company can do something like this in 5 months.
Also, for me the future comes down to if there's a way to get a users twitter posts onto Threads.
If there is a tool that will take twitter posts and transpose to threads, than that is the end for Twitter (IMO), as Twitter is having increasing tech issues which makes using it kind of suck.
If guys like Friedman or other insiders can automate getting their posts from Twitter to Threads, they will do that and threads will flourish. If they can't, Threads will have a big road.
