Burns was drafted as a RW, though. Never played D until Lemaire made him do it. Buf played D in junior but started as a RW in the minors and then continued for the Hawks. Didn't go back to D until Atlanta.

I suppose that could be a product of learning the game on the back end however. The Flames tried him a few games as a center, but he apparently hated it.

At a far lesser level I can relate to this. As a defenceman you have more time to see things develop and make reads as to where to go to create openings and when to jump in and to create scoring chances. As a forward I always found it more reactive and needing to be more instinctual to make plays. So if you are used to seeing the game as a defenceman it's a tough adjustment for a lot of guys.

Excited for Kylington to return. Hopefully he hasn't regressed from his down year. Who knows, maybe even gotten better after dealing with whatever this was.
Really like his game. An exciting player to watch.

Well I did give him the outrageous prediction of Erik Karlsson 2.0 just after he got drafted and he's done nothing to dissuade me of that view lol

Kylington is probably the player they can afford to gamble on - ie if Calgary offer him a 6 year $4.5M deal during camp, is Kylington really gonna turn that down after a year off with his injury history (and, let’s be real - a lack of noteworthy point totals through age 25)?

The young players too. Pelletier, Coronato, anyone. Washington got Hathaway on a 4x1.5. It's not any more risky to offer them multi-year deals than it is to pay someone like Kadri or Huberdeau big bucks.

^^^Very good point - Ottawa did that with all their core guys too, and even if they don’t all pan out, at least they’re all off the books before they’re 30.

Yeah, totally agree. If they offer Duehr a 4x$1M deal do you think he'd say no? That's the kind of 4th line forward contract we need for a player in their prime 25-29 years.

4 years 5 mil total is a great deal for both the team and the player

IMO he’d be a fool not to - nobody is giving Walker Duehr that kind of term.
