Yeah the owner was ridiculed when he took over but he's kind of showing the old guard what happens when you manage a team with a real business strategy instead of a hobby.

It’s funny how the old guard warned that Dundon’s meddling would be bad for the franchise. While he has brought his own business experience and intelligence into the room, his approach is more about bringing smart people like Tulsky aboard, and disregarding conventional hockey wisdom around things like goalies, cap management, etc.

with Svechnikov likely being at training camp they will be 2.25 over the cap.

Is Taresenko paying them 2.25 to play with them?

They're way under with Svechnikov.

He's on IR and still counts against the cap. When you look at CapFriendly their cap hit factors his salary into their hit.

They seem to make good acquisitions (might not seem good at the time) throughout each season and they're annual Cup contenders. If it wasn't for strong teams or surprise teams that knock them out of the playoffs in later rounds, the Canes are Cup contenders for the past 5-6 years in a row. I like their chances.

Guess Tarasenko did not like this deal and told his agent to get lost.

If i was writing the bio on his hockey card:

Tarasenko is an elite goal scorer that accumulates injuries with ease. Known to ask for a trade every year or two and fires agents when they don't get him what he wants.

I know money talks but it seems like an odd destination for a guy that badly wanted to play in a market like NY.

Is Ottawa really any more unusual a destination than Raleigh?

Well....the Hurricanes are actually a pretty good team right now.

Ottawa is getting there, but probably still years away from being competitive again.

Ottawa is likely willing to give Tarasenko term, which is what he likely wants being over the age of 30 already. Carolina could only give him a one year deal. It's not like cup chasing is his number one priority, he has one. $'s are the new priority.

Unless of course Ottawa is also offering him a one year deal, then I've no idea what he's doing.

Have great year, cash in on the much higher cap next year.

Lots of guys are betting on themselves this season.

That being said though, i wouldn't be surprised if they are giving 3 or 4 years at a decent price. He seems like a pretty good fit there too.

I don't think Tarasenko knows what Tarasenko is doing.

I'm starting to wonder if players are thinking Horvat somehow set the market for their contracts and are coming to the realization that Lou lost his marbles.

Horvat is certainly living like a king. Scores goals at an insane rate for a half-season stretch and signs a ridiculous retirement deal. Crazy that he wasn't the only one on Long Island that would get a 7+ year term. Lou needs to go.

I'm a lifelong Devils fan, so I have a lot of time for Lou.

He was a very frugal GM back then. Now it's all LOLWTFROLLERSKATES
