Not surprised. Guy's quite involved in the community representing the organization, even at times he's not under contract.
Maybe a position in management with, say, the Hitmen? Similar to Stajan and Otto.
The Wranglers haven't announced their coaching staff yet.

I respect what Stone did as far as being a good soldier, coming in and doing his best, without complaint. And he did have the bomb. But he got outplayed in every other aspect in the last couple seasons, by guys like Stecher and Gilbert. It's probably good that his playing days are done and a role opens up for minor league guys to try and fill.

Stone's 33 years old. Heckuva run for a support player. Good time to hang 'em up with a management gig lined up.

In my ideal world, NMCs could only be for 2-3 year periods of a contract, and only a certain number of players on a roster can have active NMCs.
NTCs should be capped as well. Maybe even only 1 or 2 teams per division can be on a player's list.

Minimum 6 years in the league, maximum 3 NTCs per team.

And once it’s waived it’s gone
And if you ask for a trade, it’s gone.

3 still seems high cap it at 2 and it has to be a modified NTC you have to list 6 teams you will accept a trade to.
Also 5/4 year contract limits.
Feels like in the NBA half the league changes every year that's why you get so much activity.
Probably why with the flat cap we are sitting in a deadlock. Remember that Kevin Hayes blockbuster.........

I'm not sure I even follow why NMC's or NTC's are needed at all.

Stone also made out like a bandit, for a guy who was really just a borderline NHLer. About $18 million USD in career earnings. A lot of guys with his skill set just linger in the AHL.

You're not sure why players who have put in some time might want some input as to where they play, especially once they get families and stuff like that? I mean, I can understand not agreeing with it, but to not even understand why they're asked for?

I think at one time, teams would dangle them in front of players as a way to entice them without having to add more money to the deal. Now, it's just become expected with pretty much every contract. I don't think they add any cost savings anymore.

Obviously I understand why players want them. I do not understand why the NHL needs them or would agree to them. Like, pretty simple, just say no (as a league) and ban them, it’d be better for business.

Only issue is that the NHLPA could ride out a season long lockout to keep the NTC/NMC the fear of being traded to Edmonton at any moment is likely worth sitting out for.

Yeah, okay, sure… doesn’t seem like the greatest justification to have them around if you’re the NHL. Like others have said, all they do is hurt smaller market teams.

Only 10 no trade clauses have been handed out in the NBA.
