I ride my bike past vehicles at traffic lights all the time, and there are so many looking at their crotches, or using speaker but holding the phone with a few fingers and also holding the wheel. Not many hold it to their ear, but there are plenty not hands free. It's amazingly bad. Cops should just blitz enforce at lights for awhile. So easy to catch.

I'm not sure if they're on their phone, zoned out, or too engaged in their conversation. Maybe they were too much in thought to notice, fair. I'm more annoyed at the car behind them not honking to nudge them along. And I'm not referring to like 1 or 2 seconds after the light turns, it's longer, and the guy behind just leaves them be. Like WTF? Just give them a light courtesy honk to remind them to go so it doesn't screw the other people behind's window of opportunity, and potentially cause more traffic than necessary.

Honking at people who don't go when the light turns is everybody's job. If you're 3 back feel free.

I'd say it's a very small minority that hold the phone to their ear or at their face on speaker. In saying that, I'm nowhere near convinced that carplay/android auto is much more than slightly less distracting. Add to that the brutal touchscreens on some cars and I think drivers are more distracted than ever on the roads.

I get annoyed with that too, but there is always a not insignificant potential for them to take it the wrong way and try to fight or slam breaks and if I'm in a bad mood, like anytime headed to work, I will take them snapping wrong and ruin my day by getting in a fight or something so I just don't bother unless they are being egregiously slow off the line.

I like to play a game at the front of the line on a red. I try to be so quick on the green that I make the car behind me look like they are spaced out and holding people up.

I do that too, I feel like a man of the people leading them to great and earlier things.

If you're in the left lane I'm a tailgater. And I'm flashing my brights. Like, GTFover.

I do drive in the left lane, in Sydney, Australia.
I realise that I don't know exactly what it's like driving in Calgary, and I can be as impatient on the road as anyone, but sometimes people are just slow off the mark. Certainly one of the least egregious things to get worked up over, and it's not like it's dangerous either.

hah.
Well, I'm not talking about off the hop, necessarily, although even then stay in the right lane if you're going to struggle off the line. My mega gear grinder is when people go slow in the left lane on a highway or multi-lane road, though. It's infuriating.

Of course, obviously overtaking/fast lane is the right lane here, but same concept.
The posters complaining about people not reacting within 0.7 seconds off the mark is what I thought could be relaxed a bit. And that made me wonder how many inches they tend to keep between their nose and the car in front, as tailgating or just general impatience makes me anxious AF.

they're not talking on the phone, they're texting.
Texting has become it's own phenomenon, like you have to text people at that exact moment.
For example, i'm at a restaurant expecting a group of people and people keep texting me, I'll be 5 minutes late, I'll be 7 minutes late, I'll be 10 minutes late. You're bothering me making me have to check my phone in case it's important, just get here when you get here and if you don't, you don't.
Remember 25 years ago, you just met friends at a place, just show up, or not.

When I stop at a red light I always leave a car and a half length, so if I get rear ended I don't hit the person Infront of me. Once a car stops behind me I close the gap to 3 feet or so.

It is the most dangerous thing you can do for everyone around you. People start driving like ######s trying to get in front of a slow car in the fast lane.
