Unless taveres has taken a big step back that I don't know about.

Tavares is not waiving his NMC to go anywhere, but certainly not Calgary.

Those are some cojones
Carolina just signed Andersen and Raanta for a combined 4.9

Understandable if this cause friction between players. It would have been better if we had sigbed Huberdeau and Kadri to short term deals so that anything they got beyond that they would have to earn it and more importantly it respects the pecking order of the guys who were already in the system.

Huberdeau and Kadri earned those contracts based on what the league was paying it has nothing to do with a pecking order. They just did it in other teams.
Just like Lindholm has earned his next contract and he's asking to be paid.
Bertuzzi signed in Toronto instead of multi year deals because he didn't get a large aav so he went to Toronto to light it up and sign elsewhere next season for long term and more money.
Domi is a throwaway singing who gets tossed around the league.
I would say we established an order this offseason and it's primarily based on Lindholm that's why Toffoli wanted out.

Apparently Kadri was one of the guys to reach out to Leafs first round pick.
While Huberdeau is trying to establish him self as a leader on the team reaching out to all the new guys Kadri is busy working with the Leafs it seems.
Strange stuff.

Why on earth would we trade away assets for another winger? Signing Lindholm is a much better plan than trading for Nylander.
THe wonder-lust that some of you have for Nylander is absolutely baffling.

I would imagine acquiring Nylander would equal re-signing Lindholm too. That’s what we would want to do if we got Nylander.

They deserved to be paid sure. Too much commitment for players that didn't really move the needle. Would rather see what we had on a shorter term.

Both from London, both played with the Knights.
If I was in the NHL and a kid from my hometown was drafted in the first round and we both took the same path to get to the NHL, I would have zero problem sending a text or calling him to say congrats. I don't think it has anything to do with Kadri being pro-Leaf or anti-Flame or anything.

Maybe this was Kadri's master plan.
Decline trade to Calgary because you don't want to leave Toronto
Toronto trades you to Colorado
Sign with Calgary, knowing Treliving will be in Toronto in year.
Get him to trade for you so you' re back in Toronto.

You’re forgetting the major factor here, Lindholm doesn’t want to sign long term here.. he’s been given the option for almost a month now and he hasn’t done so.
This is the same player who expressed lack of desire to stay with the Flames.
This is why people are talking about a Lindholm trade scenario.

Kid was born in Strathroy, grew up a Leafs fan, and got drafted by the Leafs in the first round. Kadri basically has the same story, except born in London (~30 minutes from Strathroy). They’ve got a connection.
EDIT: Whoops - quoted the wrong post - but y’all get the picture.

Or go further back: Would rather have seen those dollars go to #13 and #19 instead of bridging them to free agency. We'd have 3-4 more years of them at $8/8.5 million each probably - it was rumoured both wanted longer contracts back then.
Kadri and Huby got term because the Flames #### themselves and felt they needed to add star power to the team and patch the big holes.
I'd really hate it if they added Nylander on another big contract. Without moving something bad the other way - like Marky or Kadri.

Makes zero sense for Toronto, they need to save cap, not increase it.
Especially for an additional 5 years.

I didn’t know all that.
I saw the quote and thought it was weird. That is all.

Not just that, but Cowan also said that Kadri was his favourite player and who he tries to emulate.
