Perhaps you could just listen and form your own opinion. Theres a crazy idea.

It is kinda creepy. A grown man who uses "Mayer" as a screen name, has the guy in his avatar pic and a quote by him in your sig. A bit much.
Anyways, I'm a huge Kathleen Edwards fan. Have seen her 4 different times, all incredible shows. If you're into country tinged folk, her voice is amazing.
Check her out. But if you don't like her music, it won't hurt my feelings.

Yeah, he can play the blues pretty good, but there's about a million other white boys who can do that. Other than that, his voice is whisperry and his songs are kinda lame.
Also, does anybody else think Teddy Geiger is a shameless rip off of John Mayer, but far worse?

I have not heard Mayer's body of work, but he does deserve a special place in Hell for Your Body is a Wonderland. To use a hockey cliche, that is a howler "he would like to have back". Blender generously rated it as the 28th Worst Song Ever:

JOHN MAYER
“Your Body is a Wonderland” 2001
Get this man a cold shower
“Ohhh,” the women of the world sigh, “why can’t I just find a nice guy — you know, someone who’ll compare my breasts to a theme park?” Yearn no more, ladies! Drool never sounded as sweet as it does on this slow-stirred ode to daytime sex — but even from the otherwise charming Mayer, it’s still drool. What’s more, sunny acoustic guitars belie some creepy undertones: When Mayer rasps “Discover me discovering you” and “I’ll use my hands,” it sounds as though he’s sitting in a dark room, playing pocket pool to a camera he planted in the women’s lavatory.
Worst Moment Mayer describes the “deep sea of blankets” on his bed. Ewww!
If your songs are routinely played by Don, Joanne and the Coach, it is time to go back to the drawing board.

Ugh, another one of these threads.
I don't get it. I don't like John Mayer. But some do. So what? And what does it matter?
You like the music you like. Leave it be.

Thats the problem. People judge him on one of his first singles. I agree, that song is terrible. That being said, people that judge him on that are ignorant on this topic and shouldn't form an opinion until they listen to what he does now. You still don't like him after that? Fine, I don't care. I think all Metal "music" is terrible. Everyone has their preferences.

Sigh, I guess not, cause it turned into yet another bashing and crapping thread. So I reminded you of the purpose of this thread.

Good Lord, what is wrong with all of you people. I posted a date, plain and simple, a date and time when John Mayer will be performing and now it has turned into yet another crappin and bitchin thread.
Now, I am not going to the concert, I am not his biggest fan, but I did think that those who are might be interested to know that a concert is forthcoming.
Why cant all of you grow up and just plain accept the fact that what your musical ear enjoys is not what someone else's musical ear enjoys. And that does not make either of you right or either of you wrong. It merely makes you different in your choice of music. Cant you live with that and accept each other's taste? Like, is it hurting you if they go to the concert and enjoy it whereas it is something you would not even think of attending?
Just grow up!!!
|
Sigh, the bashing and trashing has continued. Like, if you want to discuss the merits of the music of John Mayer, start a thread for that purpose. This thread was to announce his concert, nothing more, nothing less, pure and simple, a date and place for his concert.

I don't think it's that weird. I figure pick a theme and go with it. How is that creepy?

In Calgary? I doubt that. It's still listed as Kathleen Edwards, but how cool would that be if Harper was along and played part of the concert with Mayer? They've played together live and in the studio (see Belief off of Continuum) so I guess it's not impossible.

Not that I'm a fan of light 96 (or is it LITE?)...but generally speaking, radio play is a valid measuring stick of success.
He was also 15 when he wrote that song...not too shabby.
It's also kind of funny how his acclaimed cover of bold as love is going entirely overlooked in this debate.

I have to agree with you Mayer. If yours is creepy, then I think a huge portion of this board better watch out (i.e. all Flames or hockey stuff etc).

Yah, if that bad song was written when he was 15 then...I agree it deserves someleeway. How many of us were writing songs that made it that big, let alone wishing that Rolling Stone or whatever would stomp on it ?
(and again, it should be noted that I'm not a Mayer fan. I guess I agree with Redforever, I don't understand why people are coming in and trouncing all over him. The thread is obviously for those people who like John Mayer, have gone/want to go/are going to his concerts, etc etc).

Thought I'd bump this as I have a funny story to tell. So I ordered my tickets through the fanclub presale and got wicked seats. The service is offerred by Music Today. I bought these tickets back in February and I was wondering why I hadn't received them yet.
So I get an email today from Music Today, telling me that UPS accidentally shipped my tickets to another person with by name by accident. So I'm wondering WTF is going on, seeing as how I'm the only person with my name in the entire city and the package had my address clearly listed on it.
I called Music Today and they said that it had in fact been shipped to another person with my name but he had been kind enough to call them and advise that they were not his tickets. So I gave them my phone number and a few minutes later I got a call from the guy. Apparently he lives in Lethbridge and because my name is unlisted in Calgary, he was the only one in Souther Alberta for UPS to send it to.
As luck would have it he's coming up here for a baptism next weekend and is going to drop off my tickets for me. Nice to see there are still some honest people left in this world.
Oh and before anyone starts up, he is a John Mayer fan.

Anyone else go last night?
I thought he played a great set of music. Didn't dwell on his teen-aged pop years too much, but gave the (girl) fans enough of what they wanted (errr your body is a wonderlaaaaand). He interacted quite intimately with the crowd, something that adds a lot to the show. He's certainly not the artist he used to be. Mayers' songs have become much more complex and unique. He really one of the better guitar players out there these days (Although I'm sure I'll get jumped on from the stereotyping crowd for that one). His vocals are much more confident than they used to be as well. 2 thumbs up.

I had to miss both (Edmonton and Calgary) shows because of my job this summer. I had family and friends go to both though and heard they were quite impressive.
He's not the artist he used to be, no doubt. He's only getting better.

Haha looks like you're the local expert around these parts...But I do argee, he's still a young artist with his best years ahead of him. Too bad you couldn't make it...He DID say "See you next Summer" at the end of the show...I think.
