Its weird how its the Flames fault because they dont give chances to guys like Philips.
Yet, that very same draft they picked a guy like Dube who isnt exactly a huge dude, but funnily enough showed well in training camps and also has progressed each season.
The previous season and again in the 6th round just like Philips, took an undersized Mangiapane who also came to camps and actually earned some attention and eventually a spot....and all that without the team "leaving spots open for young guys"....onstead, he made them make room for him with stellar defensive play and eventually some offense as well.
So is it just some weird personal vendetta by the whole organization against the guy or just maybe his game simply wasnt good enough when given the chance to show it?

The problem with Phillips, like most players who cannot make the jump is their play away from the puck. I'd hate to watch Phillips be charged with covering Kane or Draistal.

I think a CP group buy of Phillips Capital jerseys may be in order... just for Scorp. ;-)

He couldn't do a heavy forecheck obviously, but I remember seeing him pick pocket guys to get possession of the puck.

I disagree with this. I'll love Iggy and Kipper for life.

Let's for a second assume Phillips is the 2nd coming of St. Louis what's stopping Calgary from signing him, as an UFA, next summer?
But why would he want to sign in CGY? Okay, that's good point, but in that case he would've just left as soon as next season was up anyways.
Teams lose players to free agency all the time, I'd argue a lot of the unqualified RFA's were bigger losses than a guy we had in our system since 2016. It's a loss of a 6th round pick and the development time. At the same time Phillips didn't exactly take a job away at training camp.
A guy like Kylington did in a similar set of circumstances. A guy like Dube(same draft) had a much better production than Phillips in Stockton 2018-19, and 2019-20. He still struggled to produce any level offense consistently in the NHL over his first couple of seasons. That's why I would be surprised if Phillips gets more than 30pts this year.

People should choose to love or not love whomever they want. A lot of people prefer to fall in love with prospects or players, and I think that's perfectly fine. It enriches peoples' experience as fans. Just because it may hurt when a player is gone it doesn't mean it's not worth it.
I personally think saying never to fall in love with prospects is a bit of a no-fun attitude. It sounds a lot like when people say they've given on finding love and vow to be single the rest of their lives.

If Phillips was the second coming of St Louis, it was up the Calgary to figure that out well before now. It’s way too late now.

Happy he is going to get another shot. Walking away from an extra year though to me is a poor business decision by the kid and his agent. Some insisted Philips wouldn't garner any interest around the league.

You think that interest would have been there if Mitch Love hadn't moved on and is now with the Caps?

Love players, but accept that there’s gonna come a time where it’s best to move on from them. Also that they could want to leave
