I always root for the underdog. Glad Clarke held on.
Hes was also 10th in fedex point this season so he's playing really well. Not sure where he is now but he'll be up there.
Edit: 4th now!

Rickie Fowler is all class in his loss to Clark
Quote:
Sans the glasses, it was that way again in his post-round press conference on Sunday at the 123rd U.S. Open. Fowler had every reason to feel gutted at Los Angeles Country Club. In bidding to win his first major, he shared the 54-hole lead with Wyndham Clark, but had the best (or worst?) view of the younger man and fellow Oklahoma State golfer—who copied Rickie’s putter!— lifting the trophy.
Fowler, 34, did crack, however, and the slightest of wetness in his eyes and waver in his voice came when he was asked what he said to Clark as they embraced on the 18th green.
“Just said, ‘Your mom was with you. She’d be very proud,’” offered Fowler, who was sensitive to the Clark's mother's death from breast cancer in 2013.

No problem with Clark winning but that was pretty boring overall.
A Fowler redemption story was the only reason the tournament was interesting.
The course really seemed devoid of intrigue.

Celebrated Square Root Day

Even the crowd rushing the green seemed kind of lame. I know they aren't always organic, but most in the past few years have seemed to be born of excitement either because the race or the winner creating an atmosphere that breeds it.
Mickleson winning the PGA championship, Rory at the Canadian Open last year, Nick Taylor this year, Tiger at East Lake etc. This one just had a forced "were getting called out for a ****ty crowd , tell everyone to rush the green as a non heavy weight/non story player walk up to two putt for a win" vibe.

For what it's worth Matthew Fitzpatrick was candid with the media saying the crowds sucked, and suggested that he heard that too many tickets were given to members to disperse and not enough to the general public.

Limit crowd numbers + mostly hospitality tickets + the remaining grounds tickets allegedly costing $300 = worst major atmosphere ever. And the rumour is of the 9000 GA tickets, 4000 of those were bought by LACC members to keep plebs out.

Even if if the course layout was the greatest in major history (and it certainly wasn't that) this would still be one of the worst majors ever because actual golf fans were basically barred from going. I get that this is the most posh, exclusive country club in America, but that sentence is exactly why it should never have been considered in the first place. Like I said if they want to have a major in LA then play Riviera, but this was a poor choice from the start and turned out to be even worse in practice.

It played out as I expected for the last couple groups with players either dropping shots or just shooting par which is why I thought that someone down the leaderboard might make a charge. The two guys that came to mind were Bryson, who sucked on Sunday, and DJ, who was decent but just missed a handful of birdie putts. If DJ didn't miss a bunch of those putts he would applied some pressure to the leaders. I was also hoping Tom Kim might make a run like he did on Saturday but I wasn't expecting much because of his limited experience in these situations.

I’m not sure what you mean by barred from going? My son and I were considering heading out to LA a week ago to see a couple of rounds. A week before the tournament there were GA tickets available as well as tickets for the hospitality tent setup. I don’t remember the exact prices but they were less than what I was expecting for a US Open. Certainly far less than the Masters. I don’t hear that complaint for that tournament.
The VIP hospitality tickets might have been $300. I think maybe GA was $125 IIRC.

Nice Canada day rounds from Pendrith and Hadwin. Two Canadians in the final group on a Sunday! Id guess that hasn’t happened before. Could be one of the best years ever for Canadians on the pga tour with 4 winners already and a chance for 5 tomorrow.

What a farce I can’t watch this on TV. Hadwin is on the 7th hole according to the coverage in the golf channel. Jesus Christ.
