The Flames should retain max with Hanifin to make him as enticing for the other team as possible. Even then I feel like the return is not going to be that great, we can see in the case of Debrincat how teams apparently have made acceptable offers but the deals have fallen apart due to his extension demands. Teams seem completely allergic to cap hits right now.

He would be a great get as far as this meager UFA pool is concerned.

Only makes sense if Linholm is basically moved for futures, as Flames don't have much cap.
Of course, depends on what happens to Backlund, Hanifin etc. also.

I hope we value any cap space we create and domt blow it in 5 minutes on crappy free agents like Domi.
It's one thing about Treliving that was super annoying as soon as he got cap he would use it right away. He treated cap space like the league would take it away if we didn't use it all

What value does it have if you don't use it?

If you can move Backlund or Lindholm I wouldn’t mind Domi as a 1/2 year stopgap while we await for someone else that can take the top 6 role.

Backlund out, Domi in
Hanifin out, Dumba in
I can get with both of those.

You could be the 3rd team in a trade to eat cap and get assets.
Seems like people get upset when we go shopping in free agency and when were do the right thing and sit still they stills get mad.
I mean we could have created space and wasted large dollars on JT Compher.

Plus the assets acquired from trading Hanifin and Backlund...yeah I wouldn't complain about any of that myself.

Conroy should have been stocking up on the 1 year contracts like Yzerman. Provide the depth needed when the big UFAs are dealt early, but then have extra bodies you can flip for more picks at the deadline. You want to kick start a rebuild? You need a ton of extra picks. You can get them by signing 1 year free agents and flipping them.

Well I think a couple things
- I don't think the Flames are a compelling destination for free agents unless they are paying more
- Lack of cap space.
