He was runner up for the Selke just 1 year ago

If it's a contract under $9M, I don't mind signing him to 8 years.

I would be surprised if Lindholm's extension comes in that high. The last update suggested they are currently negotiating in the range of $8.2 m.

This year's votes for comparison. He's still technically top 10 best defensive forward in the league
If anything it just shows how amazing Bergeron is

I think all three of Backlund, Lindholm and Hanifin will have value as the season goes on and competing teams needs help. Having them at 1/2 price must be a bonus in a cap-strapped market. They already have good contracts. We see how much a market can fluctuate in only a few months.

Yep, our best bet now is to make a clear franchise direction on Hanifin, Lindholm and Backlund to sell before the trade deadline if we keep them into next season (and we should based on rumoured returns). But we HAVE to stick to it regardless of how the team is doing (not bloody likely). I already know how it is likely to go with the "anything that our team does is justified and the right course" crowd and Murray Edwards.
We will likely be in or just out of the playoffs early 2024 and then it will suddenly turn to "well, we have to go for it and you can't give up these kind of players right now, what message does it send to the team?!!"
And then we'll go for a playoff birth and either miss or get a first round exit and then we'll all sit here and discuss the possibility of Hanifin/Lindholm/Backlund re-signing, while their homes are on the market before the season is over, lol.

The post above. It's tiresome. Nothing against the thread or debating the worth of signing.

I'm rarely productive but that wasn't really an issue at all here. This a forum so nothing is really productive. It's how people can't get an opinion across without being snarky, like they love the smell of their own farts. You can argue lindholm isn't a good signing without being condescending. Same the other way, you can argue he's great without dismissing those concerned as being negative nellies for no reason.

Cool.
What's your point? This is the internet. It's not new at this point, so what revelation are you trying to give us?

I doubt that. I was as optimistic as anyone about Johnny, because even he was really torn when he left the organization. I would be shocked, and I'm sure the majority of Flames fans would be as well, if anyone re-signed with the Flames after another mediocre season.
They'd really have to love Huska and their teammates to come back for more.

The Selke is voted on by journalists. A funny thing that happens - a guy gets 20 less points than his line mates and pundits conclude he is the best defensive player.

Saying there is no deadline now doesn't mean there won't be one this offseason. He's been adamant about learning from the Gaudreau situation and not letting it happen again. He's just saying there isn't a deadline right now. The offseason just started and there are a lot of moving parts.

Well, it only takes a pair of eyes to see he is.
