master plan? shouldn't they be improving like the other teams? alot of good signings today and nothing from the flames, klingberg for 4mil now that would have been a good fit on a team lacking offense.
imo they seem to stand pat, like this year at the deadline they obviously thought they were good enough hell sutter said we were good enough to go all the way.
I'm guilty of this too biut i fans are so used to being mediocre or losing that we are complacent and used to the thing every year it will work eventually some how.
well i think we should be following successful teams, the team that just 1 the cup isn't sitting back not changing anything, even the champion is wanting to improve, it feels arrogant that the Flames stand pat so often. It's not working so let's change it, i'm hoping conny will be the man to finally admit the current method isn't working and start a new direction.
going to
A team that is in win now mode doesn't have the time to build within with prospects.
I'm happy they want to give young guys a chance, too but it's very unlikely one of them makes it up and if they do it won't be enough.
The last time we really improved the time was trade deadline in '04 and the additions were a big part of the run.
All my opinion but i am frustrated and have a hard time believing that we won't get a bunch of lip service and then they do the same things as always always and either just barely miss the playoffs or squeak in for a 1st round defeat, i would like to see a bit more aggressive approach let's make it happen.
I hope i'm wrong and you're right and they are successful because I want to see success it's more important than my opinion.
Like a lot of fans i'm frustrated and impatient and probably panicking too early.
GO FLAMES!

They have been aggressive the last few summers with some major signings. How has that worked out?
BT was one of the more aggressive GMs out there.

No NHL organization should ever have a problem replacing players of the caliber of Aaron Stecher.
Apologies if that’s a hot take.

Perfect - do it again.

Ah, right. So "the plan" is to do nothing? Go into the season with the same team and hope everything turns around and all the soon to be UFAs have a change of mind? Because that appears to be the plan. Kick the can down the road on Lindholm, Backlund, Hanifin, Tanev, Zadorov, and Gilbert?
This team needs a solid plan. If this team is thinking about off-loading even some of these UFAs they should be making signings to backfill them, because we do not have the organizational depth to backfill these six positions. They should have been taking advantage of the depressed UFA market and sign some of these guys to one or two years deals to provide some depth and then have additional players to move for assets at the deadline. Doing nothing does not help the situation the team is in. Having an actual plan where the team assumes control over the situation is where Flames will gain back some credibility. Doing nothing and giving control to the very players who want out is a failure and will only continue to do damage to the reputation of the club.
So for the saving future embarrassment, "what's the plan?"

Sometimes, doing nothing is the right decision.

I would be shocked if we got to training camp without another major trade. One of Hanifin or Backlund will be gone by training camp almost certainly, with Lindholm being a distinct possibility if he tells them he will not re-sign. I think for better or worse they want to keep Zadorov longterm and Tanev will be a deadline guy if he is healthy (I suspect they want to play him with Kylington). Not overly concerned about Gilbert.
I am a rebuild guy myself but they do not seem to want to tear it down. But I don’t think they are just going to run it again. Conroy said you can’t let these guys take you right to UFA and I tend to want to give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

If they go into the season with every one of these players still unsigned, it absolutely will be a failure and should be condemned, and Conroy himself has said that this is not his intent.
But we already saw today how GMs value otherwise good players within a flat cap world, and what even productive players like Toffoli are returning. We have a grasp of what was offered for Hanifin at the draft, or at least the basis of those deals. Absolutely un-****ing-acceptable. Garbage. Bless Conroy for telling those GMs to pound sand and see how far they get.

They seem to have a plan, even if it is an extemely flawed plan. Which is more than could be said of the Treliving plan, which evidently was no plan.
Conroy has made it very clear what he intends to do, and so far has followed through on his message. He wants to get younger, fill spots internally, and refuses to get ripped off in a bad trade. I'm on board with that, even if I don't agree with everything he's done so far.

Now wouldn't it be funny if we added Kane/Tarasenko a bit later on.

Without Toffoli, the Flames have a 21-man roster (12F, 7D, and 2G) and only $711k in cap space.
Even if he wanted to do something, Conroy couldn't really do anything today unless he's trading Hanifin for the sake of trading Hanifin.

Conroy said it pretty straight in the presser, Today's a day for spending money and we don't have any money.

There was absolutely anyone that went today where I think to myself..."Damn, I wish the Flames had gotten him!"
Not one.
Ship out Lindholm, Backlund and Hanifin and you'll have plenty of money.
