I'm just saying you have options the only option isn't paying a 37 year old Lindholm 8.2 amd if he's playing at a 4th line level the cap hits are 2 years.

You can retain salary and send him to Arizona.

It's not the end of the world especially when the cap is going to be in the 100s these contracts won't look that bad.

8.2 per year is an easy yes from me, 9+ is where I have an issue

If the flames had a real vision...instead of "hang on for dear life and hope for the best" this would be an easy decision.

If you are going for it in the next 3 years...then load the f* up and let the cards fall where they may. Get the best coach, the best gm, start the propaganda machine for how close we are and sell the farm and futures.

If you are going to be good again in 5-8 years, then sell at the maximum value between now and the deadline...take picks, retain salary, do whatever you need to maximize assets and not screw yourself with bad contracts in 5-8 years. Hell trade huberdeau/Kadri for a bad contract that expires in 4-5 years for a player that sucks already.

We are so half pregnant...and we have a big chunk of the fan base endorsing the stupidity for some reason. It's fine to hope for the best once the cards are dealt...but we don't have to endorse the stupidity as it's happening.

This contract negotiation and paying a player in his 30s big dollars magnifies the big issue with Treliving trading out picks for junk like Lazar, Bollig, Hamonic etc.

You should be loading up your prospect base so these moves are easier you your own players pushing these guys out so you don't have to overpay to keep them and you can maybe ride out a Lindholm on his last year and trade Backlund for picks and prospects.

He will get an 8 year deal somewhere else unless the Flames say “sign or we will run it out and get nothing for you”

There is a difference between endorsing it and accepting it.
Don't confuse the two.

If you are going to overpay it’s better to be a center. Low 8’s is a win in my mind. Lindholm is legit.

We should probably wait for Conroy to do something more than trade a 31 year old for a 25 year old and an 18 year old before we confirm definitively that he is not trying to replenish the teams prospects and get younger.

Giving your money to the Flames is an implicit endorsement of their brand. It signifies that this is something you value and will trade working hours of your life to support or promote.

Obviously none of us are going to be affecting the life of billionaire oil tycoon Murray Edwards as he rakes in our money from the comfort of his tax-exempt Swiss villa, but it's wrong to say that acceptance and endorsement are conflated when support is tied to tangible, monetary exchange.

I don't care how petty or absurd my reasoning is, I'm fully aware, but I'm all on board moving on from Lindholm, I don't want him on the team past next trade deadline unless its some absurd team friendly deal. The reason? Because I found out his him and wife have an entire Instagram account for the home they are building in Sweden

I hate social media, and making an Instagram account for your house is a level of pretentiousness that bothers me way more than it should.

Sounds like a project for his wife to focus on while he plays hockey.

Yeah **** that guy and his family for being excited about something and making a free social media account that hurts no one.

who said anything about giving or not giving money to the Flames?
Acceptance and endorsement are two different things. They literally have different meanings.

It’s less a matter of the dollars and more a matter of interest.

If Elias Lindholm wants to be a Calgary Flame, awesome. I’m all for that, he’s a terrific player.

If Elias Lindholm is just signing the piece of paper in front of him because it secures him $72M (or whatever), I’m less for that.

I feel like if he wanted to be here he would have signed already, especially given the fact the flames rolled out the carpet for him apparently.

The delay just further shows his lack of true desire to be here any longer, if he wanted to be here he would have signed and enjoyed his summer.
The fact this has gone on so long and basically handcuffed the flames from making other moves per Conroy bugs me a bit, definitely Johnny vibes at this point.

No. Just....no. Dont do it. He'd be wiling out that contract toiling on our 4th line.

And that Kadri contract? I have no idea what we're going to do about that one. I personally think we're either stuck with it, or it'll be bought out (The Treliving UFA Special) with 3 or so years remaining.

You know what? Kadri wanted to stay in Toronto.

Tell Brad that when he packed his #### he forgot something

Kadri for Nylander

At this point I'd say Brad owes us this one.

If this was 4 years ago I'd love having Kadri on this team. But its not.
