Tarasenko would make a lot of sense.

Ekblad and montour out with injuries so need those warm bodies to start season. Less of a need once those two are back.

We’ll get him at the deadline when we’re loading up for our playoff run.

I was thinking it'd be funny if San Jose now flips Duclair to the Flames in a package for Hanifin.

Forget who it was but a team paid a 2nd round pick for a buyout worth 2.3 million in cap space- Florida gets 2 million in this deal so it's around the same value. I wouldn't call the return nothing just that cap space is really valuable right now.

And Duclair wanted to be our Latex Salesman...I mean, they wanted Hanifin for him??

For this acquisition cost it may have been worth it to see if he could recreate some magic with Huby on a one year trial.

I agree. For a reasonable price, he would have helped the lineup.

To what end? So that maybe, best case, they make the playoffs as 3rd seed in the Pacific and draft 18th instead of 11th?

This is a player you take on if you need a very particular addition to put you over the top, are taking on salary to hit the cap floor, or are including in a trade to make the numbers work for something else.

The Flames were in no position to accept any of these three scenarios. The Sharks are in one of the latter two positions.

3rd seed in the Pacific will probably have over 100 points...a pretty good team

Yes but the wizard had raped this team all cap space. There is no room for Conroy to make any move except selling.

Feel sorry for the guy

Just spitballing but what if SJ acquired him to retain half and trade to us? Florida was probably not in a position to do so. But SJ probably has that ability.

At this value for Duclair, I now think Conny did good with Toffoli given the market we have seen for wingers.
