Foegle is off the books next season which is almost 3M, but ya they are just strapping themselves more for next season.

Cap is going up next year though. That will help the Oilers in a big way.

Until the realize this watered down soft penalized version of the NHL isn't really that good and profits start to drop again.

So, if he plays 82 games I assume he gets the full 4m.
You couldn’t come up with a harder bonus(es) threshold Edmonton?

Maybe, but likely Brown doesn’t sign that deal. Not much of a gamble for this year, but could be painful for them next year. Clearly Holland thinks he needs to win this year, if not the following years won’t matter much as they will be about to embark in a rebuild,

775 cap hit this year. Any bonuses he achieves count towards next year when the cap rises 9 mil

I doubt he would have signed for such a low base if the bonuses weren't easy to reach.
The Oilers are banking on having big cap next year so the risk of low cap now, but bigger hit next year is worth the risk for them.

Thats how Oiler fans afford it. Cheap sweatpants and expensive tickets.

Nah it's probably something very easily attainable, assume his knee surgery holds, like 25 games.
This contract term has nothing to do with player performance, all to do with desperately scrambling to be cap compliant after years (and decades) of mismanaging have forced the Oilers to overpay players to go there.

That would be shocking if it’s that easy to hit, which probably means it’s exactly what happened with Holland negotiating it.

That's a nice big of GMing by Holland. He kicks the cap hit can down the road and gets a guy that could be a nice addition as a two-way player. Bit of risk with his injuries, but if he's healthy it'll be a great value signing.

Pretty much what you would expect for a middle 6 guy who only played 4 games last season.

That's not quite correct.
If, without bonuses, the team's cap expenditures comes to 82.5M and the total bonuses achieved by the players is 4M, the first 1M would be "used" to reach the 83.5M cap of the 2023-2024 season, the remaining 3M would be bonus overage for the 2024-2025 season. You can only have 7.5% of the cap earmarked for bonus though before the excess becomes cap for that year.
It's one of the drawbacks for the LTIR teams that exceed the cap so all bonuses received that year are calculated for the cap for the following year, but currently the Oilers aren't up against the cap or utilizing LTIR. They will end up a cap team, but they are equally likely to implode and sell everything at the deadline so it's no guarantee that they will exceed the cap by his bonus overage.

I laughed when Spector said Bjugstad I think it was has to decide if he wants to re-sign with the Oilers for the chance at winning a Cup or go someplace else for bigger money. Because I guess you can't have both leaving the Oilers.
