I'd be comfortable with that. As long as the Pittsburgh has Crosby or Malkin they probably won't drop to bottom 10, but that kinda deal allows them to get quality assets in return for Hanifin.

it's not terrible, but I'd rather add one really good prospect in addition to a 1st than a quantity deal like this. That's why Pittsburgh is just not an ideal trade partner, their cupboard is pretty bare. Pickering is just okay and Poulin doesn't really move the needle.

Bet we see a Hanifin trade and Dumba signing soon if it's going to go down at all.

Its not an awful package but it reeks of quantity over quality. Outside of mmmmmmaaaaaybe the 2025 1st, there is nothing in that package with real high end potential. I can see why the Flames turned it down.

Looks like a bunch of nothing tacked onto a 1st that would definitely be top 10 protected. Good chance it just becomes Hanifin for a mid 1st. It’s not Olofsson and a 3rd bad but still not a good deal. Conroy is right to wait it out.

I really hope the Flames didn’t overplay their hand here. Lot of the interested teams are signing FA defencemen.

This is why teams were offering lowballs. They knew the FAs available.
The music will stop and someone will be left without a dman they want though.

Then you wait till the season starts and wait for a team to be desperate. You just HAVE to trade Hanifin, no matter how well you are doing.

That’s terrifying though. Sometimes, the best indicator of future behaviour is past behaviour, and if the Flames are doing well, they risk losing him for nothing because past behaviour suggests they wouldn’t trade Hanifin in that situation. Hopefully, Conroy is smarter than that…

I know you think I’m an idiot, but I don’t like the current situation.

I’m guessing Hanifin is with the Flames this season. The market for available players is more saturated than I’ve ever seen, as a reflection of the stagnant cap.

Flames traded Glencross the year they surprised everyone with a playoff spot. If they have a plan I think theyll stick to it.

"I won't let that happen again"
Someone needs to print that in huge letters and put it in Conroy's office.

Seems like adding a bunch of nothing from a crappy prospect pool and trying to make it look like a big offer.
Goes back to what Conny has said about the Dion trade and how dumb it was when the names came out. A bunch of quantity for a big piece.

I don't think these short term free agent signings change that much with Hanifin. You were always going to have to take money back in some form or another because teams are against the cap. And Hanifin was always going to be a long term solution for anyone interested.

This should make him more tradeable though, he and Lindholm are 'underpaid' for next year.

At least there is some potential with the Pens offer, a couple of draft picks and Pickering could develop into a bottom pairing guy.
We only got a nice guy for the community out of the Phaneuf deal.
