Reeves was still a decent player like five years a go when Tree wanted him. Now he's still tough as nails sure but can't play.

3 years $1.3M Aav per Dreger

Based on level of interest, it’s believed the target is 3 years. I don’t believe the Wild we’re willing to do more than 2 years. Expect the AAV to come in around $1.3. He will be a fan favourite in Toronto.

Thought 3 would be too good to be true but he actually signed him for 3. Lol.

The time line is hilarious. He signs Kampf for 4 years. Then Tre says there is a pecking order to signing and they need to focus on top guys first but then he signs reaves?
The more I see this more they should have taken Tre’s phone away for each July.
Flames would have been in such a better place. Treliving can trade. He’s wizard sometimes. But man….

Easton Cowan in round 1
4 year contract for David Kampf
3 year contract for Ryan Reaves
it has certainly been a start for Tre

I've always been a fan of Tre's overall work, but also felt his tendencies on July 1st was his biggest weakness. He seems to be making the same mistakes here with the Leafs...

Someone needs to block Treliving’s communication sources in the offseason and force him to take a vacation or something. He’s already doing what he did here in Toronto. Kampf and Reaves for a combined cap hit of 3.8m is insane.

The AAV is fine but three years for a 35+ year old enforcer? Oof

It's wild to me how many former Treliving apologists are suddenly aware of how terrible a GM he really is now that he's managing a different team.

Spectacularly bad contract. He'll be eating popcorn or in the minors for the vast majority of this contract. This team badly needs that 1.3 million for something else.
dumb.dumb.dumb. So glad he's not our GM anymore. He hasn't seemed to learn the lesson about handing out money and term to bottom six or replaceable players.

Yeah exactly.
When it's close to $1.2M it isn't an albatross at all.
Glad Calgary didn't sign him though.

I hope Flames fans that thought this guy was a wizard now understand that he's a good not great GM that puts way too much emphasis on veteran depth forwards and defensemen. For a cap strapped team he spent a lot of money on 4th line players this last week.

I'm not really a fan of the "see, we told you he's bad" posts. I think even Trelivings biggest defenders will concede that his biggest weakness has always been UFA contracts and unnecessary depth signings. He did excel in other areas (RFA contracts, trades), but yeah, taking the guy's phone away during free agency was always advisable.
