It would have been terrible to be fair. That's up there with Duclair and a pick.
If that is all there is then I'd rather they just keep him on team. I'd rather have Hanifin as a rental then that.

Now that's a horrible offer. Buffalo is trying to get rid of Olofsson and he's also making 4.75 million. Woof.

Up there? This is way worse! Olofsson doesn't do anything outside his shot.

Their job is to make their clients happy. Many of them are as plugged in to the NHL power channels as GMs. They often act as go-betweens between players and the negotiating teams.
When we talk about Lindholm or Hanifin only being traded to a team where they’ll sign an extension, how do you think GMs know who those teams are?

Holy smokes. That’s not even close. That tracks with what Conroy was saying.

They are being leaked by someone?
I'm talking about what the package coming back is, why would the agent of Hanifin or Lindholm even care what Calgary gets back? I'm not following you here.

That is an insulting offer. Makes no sense in anyway. If that is the value Buffalo puts on Hanifin I can’t see a deal getting done with them.

I'd like to see a trade with the rangers tbh. Not only would that be a great landing spot for a sign+trade on Hanifin + Vladar as well. Could take back Lafreniere, a young defenseman and a pick/prospect.

That sure sounds like an agent to me.

Whats the benefit of passing this on publicly, or would it be considered tampering or meddling if the agent was dealing with Pittsburg directly?

I hope he waits it out. Having a low ball trade like Toffoli is not the answer

Spark interest in more teams, which could lead to bigger offers for Hanifin next off season.

Cap issues for the Rangers make taking on cap very hard.
They can’t fill out their team as it is.
Plus their top 4 dmen are pretty good already.

Jesus, I'd have to think twice about trading Backlund for that, nevermind Hanifin. Absolutely out to lunch.

Buffalo just copy and pasted the Toffoli trade. And switched the players to Hanifin and their 27 year old soon to be UFA

Even if it is agents, the message is out there with the blessing of the GM, especially if it's a guy like LeBrun as the agent of communication. Player agents always have info, but it doesn't get out for public consumption if the GM or team doesn't wish it to. I still think it's Conroy or Nonis, but regardless, the Flames are consciously allowing the media being part of their process.

Olofsson and a 2nd at minimum would have been the price. I still wouldn't have been happy with that return.
Again, Hanifin is a perfect 2/3 d-man on a cup winning team. Anybody not willing to pony up for a high quality player like that should be shut down quick.
Olofsson and Mittlestadt and maybe I'd consider it.

Can't say I'm a fan of Conroy cuddling up the media and using them to get semi daily updates out there.

I am old enough to remember the Jason Zucker trade that did not happen.

There are many moves every year at the deadline. It's a great time to move players. There are typically multiple arms races among contenders at the deadline. Players like Backlund, Hanifin, and Lindholm would be highly sought after.
The bigger issue becomes if Calgary is in or competing for a playoff spot, what do you do?
|
You trade just like the Flames did in 2015.
