Sec had that one post where he called the Sutter firing, Conroy as GM, Treliving leaving, but it was all so far in advance that he really couldn’t have had insight at all. Then he was wrong about the coaches. But he’s seemed to have some pretty insightful posts as to the Flames mindset and strategy.

Conroy says the offers he was getting didn’t make sense, and he was not being offered any 2023 picks. He confirms he was trying to get a higher pick for Toffoli, but none were being offered, but he was happy to do the deal because of the younger player.

"For the Calgary Flames its about right now" when talking about picks being pushed out to next year.
The marching orders do appear to remain intact. Wonderful.

Nah, they are still getting younger just not down the road picks which I like. A 2024 pick is years away from playing

Yeah, so they have a certain view of what their team is now - and they want to compete. They aren't necessarily planning to improve over the long-term at the expense of short-term. Which isn't shocking and they've been pretty consistent about it.
Doesn't appear to be a smart path forward, but it is what it is. They're maintaining status quo, but instead of loading up on depth veterans we're likely going to see younger players peppered in - which isn't exactly a huge shift.
If Lindholm and Backlund don't re-sign, things will get interesting. Those hockey trades should be entertaining.
