I don’t think anyone is calling him a cap dump?
He just can’t be the “main piece” in a Hanifin trade when the goal is to get younger.
Trading Hanifin for a worse, older player as the big piece coming back would be terribly disapointing.

He should be viewed as a dump in any deal with Calgary because he should not have any value to us.
Doesn’t mean Florida should feel that way but for me whatever value Florida puts on Duclair I would take that over him. So if they think he is worth a 3rd I would say send me the 3rd instead of Duclair.

You can take Duclair as part of a package and see if it works out with Huberdeau. If not, you can always ship him out at the trade deadline this year to a contender for at least a 3rd round pick, if not more depending on how he's playing.
The point is, he's still an asset, even if you don't particularly like the player.

Duclair is technically older than Hanifin, but I don't think that 16 months is that much of a difference and a consideration in the trade talks. I agree he's less valuable in a trade mostly due to injury history, and the Senators not qualifying him before he signed with Florida.
As for the player himself he had 11 points in the playoffs this year. He had 58 points in 74 games last year. In fact if we project his PPG in the last 4 years to an 82 game season it gives us a 56pt player. Would I like more in return, sure, but Duclair is a great piece, he has chemistry with Huberdeau, and hopefully he can stay healthy.

Why wouldn’t he have any value to us? He’s a good player.

Didn’t you know? Anyone over 25 is garbage and has no value.

Because we aren’t competing for anything in the next few years and Duclair is an inconsistent player that isn’t worth the risk for a team in our position.
If he were to come next season as a FA on a reasonable deal, sure or included without taking value from the deal sure. But as I said if it was for a 3rd I take the puck every day of the week.

So tell us about this time machine you have that you can say we are not competing in the next few years.

Is that not a form of tampering? Aren't they Wouldn't that be essentially trying to get Hanifin to do what he can to get traded there?

I don't see that. I just see a guy reporting what he is hearing. Unless the Penguins are directly speaking with Hanifin or his agent I don't see how that would be tampering.

Don’t need a time machine to see the roster and prospects we have.

What proof is there they leaked it?

I was using that tweet as a hypothetical scenario. I'm not suggesting they did this... I'm not suggesting they didn't do it either... I'm just starting a conversation about something that I've often thought about, and the tweet was just the catalyst to my question.
