Once Love didn’t make the cut as head coach for Calgary, he was US bound, as his girlfriend lives in the states.

From Wes Gilbertson at the Calgary Sun today, the Flames never offered a position to Love even though he did have interest.

Also said the Flames really wanted Savard.

Since Savard has very limited pro experience they wanted someone more experienced to run the D. No fit for Love.

So either Conroy or Huska didn't like him.

Huska wanted his own guy (Lambert) more.

And Conroy liked Savard more.

Strange situation given his short success with the farm team. Though I do know that Love wasn’t the guy they originally wanted for that position either.

I wonder if it was as simple as Huska understanding the shine of Mitch Love and not wanting to feel like the "next head coach in waiting that the city is excited about" is under him while he potentially struggles initially in a new role with what's to be a vastly new Flames team.

This is my take as Love would be like the backup QB in football where he's always more popular than the starter. If the team had a bad season or two the calls would be coming in to replace him with Love.

Interesting we picked two players from the Vancouver Giants with our first 4 picks. Their coach is the guy the Flames had first to coach the farm before they went with Love.

Looks like Caps aren't done poaching coaches from the Flames:

smart move by Kirk, Ovechkin will do wonders for his damaged rep as a PP coach...

Did people like Muller initially when he joined?

I liked Muller at the beginning, but he didn’t do much for us.

Unsurprising that Muller got another gig. He's still a good assistant in this league.

Regarding Love leaving - honestly, who cares? He's a minor league coach and really any expectation that he comes in and turns an NHL franchise around is pretty outlandish. I wish him the best, but even if he pans out as a successful NHL bench boss, it's pretty unlikely that he's the next big thing in the league.

The Flames have A LOT more to be concerned about than losing this guy.

Yeah I think most coaches would have done pretty well last season the way Wolf was playing.
