So that’s pretty much, here’s my number, your move Connie. If the number was palatable he’d have been signed already. As Locke said, trade him.

Call me jaded or call me stupid but sometimes I don't get this narrative that we need to sign him to a long term deal to win as if we are on the cusp of winning. He isn't the missing piece. He's a fantastic player but we won absolutely nothing that matters with him and other's when their contacts started with a 4 and a 6/7 respectably. Why would that change if someone is getting a 80-90% raise? Does their production and contributions go along with that raise?

This organization won a 2nd round playoff game (2015) when our top players like Gio, Monny and Johnny were making approx $6 million combined and 2 were fresh NHLers. Then everybody got a raise and we are still struggling to make playoffs and win a 2nd game in the 2nd round

He can’t put pen to paper, but they can do an agreement in principle.

Can't believe the Penguins aren't all over this guy with their first round pick.

They already have Crosby and Malkin at centre, Hanifin would be their target.

He’ll likely be a piece we could have used at some point in the next 8 years…

Shh don't tell them that.

Actually I think he'd look pretty good on RW for them alongside Crosby & Guentzel. And could move to C if either Crosby or Malkin's out with injury.

So he's asked for above market and likely a number we dont want to pay.
Enough of the back and forth, the guy either wants to be a Flame or wants to be paid.

Just move him and be done with it, we really dont need an 8 year 8.5+++ contract for a 29 y/o looking for his last big contract. We've got enough of those

we don't have a number 1 center. Flames might be paying bit more than they would like unless they can find a number 1 center cheaper through trade or free agency, what can they do? is there a center on the wranglers who can play top line? or do kadri/backs slot in? we might lose backlund too and we would be screwed if trade lindy and lose backs.

Hard decisions coming !

I agree!! I'd rather keep Backlund as his leadership as a pure bread flame is for more valuable. Also everyone claims lindholm is this selke contending monster but Backlund seems to beat him every single year in votes.

Only problem is that the draft year where a 1st overall would have been extremely valuable is now over. We just better not get rid of him for a low 2nd 3rd 5th combo. Seems like Conroy would be soft enough to accept such a trade

At some point Flames should just provide their final offer as a take it or leave it. Sounds like the Lindholm camp is pushing for above market value as they know Calgary wants to keep the player. I hope the rumours of pushing this to August or September don’t materialize. Time to play hard ball and force them to make a decision. My preference is still to trade him.

Man, if he can't bring himself to bite on 8x9 which is half a million more than his peers are getting then you've got to cut ties.

Do you really want a guy that drags it out weeks to months (at a crucial time for the team) to decide if he wants to take an above market payday from your team because it's that hard for him to say yes to Calgary?

That said, waiting until free agency when it will dawn on teams that they have no hope to improve their center ice position outside of a trade would seem wise at least.

I mean this is an interesting take...Conroy has one career trade and it seems AT LEAST in line with market value

You are welcome to your opinion but it seems to not be based on any evidence

I'm sorry when I signed up in June 2023 I didn't see in the forum rules we were not able to voice our opinion. I can draw conclusions from inferences based off of years of analyzing his interviews, meta-verbal communication, body language, perceived personality. Please let me know if I am wrong in thinking this Mr "franchise player"
