Honzek wasn't my guy, but let's recap:
-6'4", skilled, good skater. When he fills out, he'll be 210lbs and faster.
-His 56 points in 43 games pro-rates to 88 points in 68 games, which is 10 more points than Danielson had in 68 games, on a higher-scoring team.
-Aarongavey pointed out that before his injury, he was pro-rated to 94 points.
-4th for WHL draft-eligibles in even-strength pts/60, behind Bedard, Cristall, and Benson.
EDIT: According to a post by FanIn80, Honzek was 3rd in the WHL in factoring in to his team's offense, at an incredible 47.5% of his team's goals, behind only Bedard and Cristall.
Who still doesn't like this pick?

Draft Pick

Never once has this franchise figured out a way to overcome their mediocrity. And when they almost did they let JG and tkachuk leave for bags of pucks to remain mediocre once again.
I appreciate that some people can remain continuously optimistic about every move this organization makes but I’m jaded and while I will always remain a fan, I won’t get my hopes up. Only team to have never drafted in top 3 (I think I heard that this week) and we just kinda suck.
But yeah, I’m happy for those of you who think Honzek is the next blue chip stud we need, and I’ll be happy if it turns out that way, but the odds are against him because of a) draft position and b) the organization who drafted him and I’m not about to congratulate the team on doing anything positive.
And some of us come here because the misery of being a fan of this team is nice, it’s like a good book or an old friend that’s always there for you. Can set your watch to the flames always finishing 8th-24th in standings 99% of the time and sucking in the playoffs or blowing the draft pick depending on what side of that scale they’re on
Just want to see them do something bold for ####ing one time

I share your passion but I disagree. BT was finally our bold GM. Made a splash signing a Vezina caliber goalie at the time. Drafted tkachuk instead of a safer 2 way player, signed a multitude of deals and frankly made a huge bold blockbuster trade turning a #### scenario to what even vegas bookies thought was a better cup contending team. I'm afraid Conroy is that new mediocre GM but I hope I'm wrong. So far that first trade was far from

I'm really surprised how so many posters have such strong opinions about an 18 year old prospect. I'm going to wait at least 5 years before I am going to have a strong opinion on the matter.
I guess some of you watch prospects all the time, and have an educated opinion. Maybe you're even good at projecting prospects, but then you might consider working as a scout for the NHL.
I personally haven't watched even one game with Honzek. The most I can do is watch scouting reports, highlights, and pretend I know anything about the guy. In the meantime, I wish him well, and hopefully he has a ton of success with the Flames.

They can’t handle any kind of criticism
They see every post as a negative, no matter what
They question why you are a Flames fan and it’s hilarious that they have a miserable life with other fans .

There were comparisons to Raantanen. Which could possibly be this kid. How flashey was raantenen as a pick. Without letting hindsight cloud your judgment

I take back what I said. I like it. Who knows? Maybe he'll end up a star for us?

I would agree if the team went down the rebuild path and they still were negative about it, that would be different but I haven't seen anyone do that.
I would say it isn't about value it is that for most people when they are fans they are fans during the good times and bad times. Part of being a fan is that you stick with the team when things aren't going your way. You still support the team when they do things you don't like, have players you don't like. As people say cheer for the name on the front not the name on the back.

“Nobody is disliking everything about the team, we just dislike everything about the team”
I mean, guy, I think you know I’m not referring to the jerseys here.
If you don’t like the direction, don’t like the players, don’t like the management, etc, then newsflash: you don’t like the team.
Being a “fan during the bad times” by sitting around and complaining about everything the team does and is, is absolutely no better than not being a fan at all. How are you supporting the team? Buying jerseys? Seasons tickets? What? The entire concept of cheering for the name on the front not the name on the back means it shouldn’t matter whether they’re rebuilding or who they’re drafting, you’d be cheering them on. But a few of you obviously aren’t, which is fine, just weird.
If it’s that important to call yourself a fan, just so you can say you’ve “been a fan for 20 years!” or “been a fan through the bad times!” go wild, I guess, but I think everybody can see that switching between hating on the team for everything when things aren’t perfect and cheering only when they’re a legit contender is the same as being a bandwagon fan. Which is also fine, it’s just weird your type think bandwagon fans are something beneath you when you’re the exact same. Or that homers are somehow beneath you because they have a bias toward the hometown team… you know… like fans would. lol.
At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter, it’s just annoying being a fan of this team and, during draft day which nobody can actually predict and is pretty much THE day to have high hopes for every pick, having to scroll past endless whining from people whose only fulfillment comes from complaining about the Flames. Y’all can’t enjoy anything lol, it’s insane.

Sorry which of my posts did you scroll by that was whining about this pick?
Again people aren’t hating on everything just because you say so. I cheer for the team when I go to the games. I hope they win every game next season and every season after it.
I think if the positivity police actually took time to see what people are saying rather than making up fake narratives in their heads things wouldn’t be so tragic for them.
