He’s a big young man with plenty of growth left, very smart. He’s got incredible character, skates well for a big man, will only get stronger on his edges as he gets on the program, he’s breakaway speed is underrated. He’s a puck possession monster and players struggle to get it away from him both on the half wall and in the corners. His wing span and hockey iq make his defensive play very sound.
Members of the scouting group didn’t think he would be available. Thought he would be taken by 10-15.

The flames biggest issue is that organizationally we don’t have anything you would call elite. When you don’t have elite trade pieces or even near-elite, then nobody will give you anything back that’s worth a damn. Lindholm unfortunately is not elite, he’s a great 2C on a contender, and possibly a 3C by the 2 year mark of his next contract. That’s not going to fetch an elite haul.
The flames need to use hanafin who again, isn’t elite, but is certainly above average, to get at least one near elite prospect back, and then hope and pray to whatever gods necessary that that player turns into something bordering on elite.
Other than that, the flames have coronato, Pelletier (both too small to be effective in the playoffs) and wolf.
That’s truly the extent of value that this organization has. They drafted a kid who will likely top out as a third liner maybe 60point guy and that’s about all we’ve really got to look forward too
Cupboards are pretty bare and this looks a lot like the Titov, Bure, Theo years all over again.

Out of thanks, but thanks!
When a team is that confident/excited about a pick, it's cool to hear a few tidbits from inside on what's got them all worked up!

Coronato and Pelletier are basically the same size as the guy who just won the Conn Smythe.

Without moving the targets.
He was the guy for the flames. I’m shocked Fans are even remotely disappointed. He goes higher in the draft if he doesn’t get cut at World Jrs.

What is key to understand is, are either of Lindholm or Hanafin near elite or borderline elite in your rating system? Also what categories come after borderline elite and near elite? And which is better, borderline elite, or near elite? I assume both are superior to near elite?

People want superstars or they’re disappointed. When media shoves McDavid, Bedard, Matthews ect down your throat it makes people believe that’s what wins… maybe wins meaningless hardware.

I don’t think so. 14 Moving Targets and outside of Number 1 - teams keep these lists close to their chest. You see surprises every year.

That's posturing IMO.
Tough to make a good deal when teams think you need to make a move to be cap compliant.
Teams are going to do you a "favour" to help you shed some cap back taking Hanifin off your hands

Come on . Superstars do win
Other then the St.L win every cup winner has superstars
Now it’s very hard to get superstars , but let’s not pretend they aren’t critical to winning

60 points would make him the 24th highest scoring LW, 18th RW and 43rd Centre, or the 83rd forward overall last year. Everything I have read suggest he is above average at puck possession and two way ability as well. Brings size and speed.
I would be pretty happy with a solid top 6 centre, top line winger

I'm personally always a little worried that big/physically mature junior players look better than they are because of the size difference that disappears at the NHL level. I'm guessing a lot of other posters have similar concerns.
That being said, from the 2-3 minutes of highlights I've now seen, it doesn't really seem like Honzek relies on his size mismatch to dominate smaller junior players. Sure, he uses his bigger body to protect the puck effectively, but I think that's something that will translate to the NHL.

Surprised that Hanifin and Lindholm still on the team after round 1.
Now my worry is you’re going to see a Hanifin/Vladar package for Nylander if Tre doesn’t get a good idea at his contract come July 1. Puts the team be in the same situation of a player within a year of UFA
Feel Hanifin at the trade deadline will bring back more than Nylander, as teams look to bulk up their defence for the playoffs.

Teams may want certainty they will sign in order to give up the value the Flames are demanding. I think we see more movement when FA opens and then can sign contracts with the new team.
The Toffoli trade also now means that the Flames can make good on the "threat" to hold onto them until the deadline.
I doubt an unsigned Nylander is the return for Hanafin given it doesn't address the core point of trading them.

The first day passed with no trades. I think tomorrow there will be some trades.
I hope we trade our 3 big guys for next year's 1st than tomorrow's seconds. But it would be nice we can trade Tanev for tomorrow's 2nd.

I like the pick.
The team needed some high ceiling size.
They didn't reach on him and everyone in that range is a gamble. He seems like a pretty good bet.
I hate the direction this team is going down.
Ignoring context I like the sharangovich trade. Given the flames current position I would of preferred a late first.
Seems like their goal is to simply stay in the mix of wildcard teams.
Conroys talk about keeping guys thay are proud to be flames is just talk with how he's handling lindy and hanifin.
I think it was an utter failure not to get another 1st.
It's still early so I guess we will see how it all unfolds. One trade could change everything.

Inherently untrue. They both are minimum 20lbs lighter. And play much softer games than him too
