Agree as well.
It also seems pointless to lament failing to trade down in a 1st round where nobody did that.

Wonder if the Flames take Honzak's teammate Jaden Lipinski with a 2nd or 3rd pick. Another 6'4" kid, put up 51pts with the Giants as a 17 year old. Ranked 80th by TSN.

No it doesn’t.
There are 16 scouting agencies or publications in the OP - Honzek average rank is 19th - we got him three spots earlier.
Two outlets have him as a top-10 selection.
ONE GUY (Button) had Jankowski as a 1st round pick going into the draft.

Again, screams "NHL safe".
The last first round selection I got predominantly "safe" vibes from (after looking into them) was Matthew Tkachuk.

I have very little knowledge on the draft so I can’t make a definitive decision one way or another. Flames obviously seem happy with the pick so that has to count for something. The scouts and Conroy would presumably have done their due diligence and feel like this is “their guy.” I guess I’m disappointed as there seemed to be better options available (based on what some insiders have said). Once again I don’t follow prospects closely so maybe this is a great pick but I would have preferred to have seen a more offensive gifted player taken given what was available at 16. Hope it works out for Calgary and the team gets a stud with this selection.

Honest question, do you just hate everything about this team? And if the answer is yes as your posting history suggests wtf are you doing here?

Having never seen this player and knowing nothing about him before the draft I can safely say we should fold the franchise

Maybe, but this sounds similarly conclusion-jumping and GM mind reading as my initial knee jerk take to the pick was.
Don't see a ton of point in being that critical about liking the idea of us swapping 16 for 18 and picking up a 3rd or 4th because the team below us might be desperate to get a guy not named Honzek who was sliding.
There are different angles to look at it from.
The potential upside is you have more picks and still get Honzek 2 picks later.
If you put out a couple feelers to the teams in between and get the sense that you can still get him, then why not?

There are a lot of people in this thread hating on the pick because they hate on everything the team does. It didn't matter who we selected the reaction was going to be the same for these people. I truly don't understand how someone can supposedly cheer for a team and always hate every move they make. It is just weird.
