Why do you think that the Flames didn't see Honzek as the best player available?
I've seen the kid play live a number of times and he's outstanding.
I am more excited about this pick than I was about Zary, who I watched live a bunch as well.

Yeah. I think they could've traded down and still nabbed Honzek.
Too bad they didn't.

GOAT!

I also feel like having a 6'4" (eventually) 200lbs offensive C able to lineup against Draisaitl is going to be good for us.

This was a reach. They zeroed in on a guy they liked. Someone here dropped this as the pick to look out for 2 months ago (Jiri maybe?)
Imo bad omen.

Mackenzie had him 17. And said 16-20 were interchangeable.

Wasn't thrilled with the pick initially but warming up on this guy. I hope he plays a huge role in Calgary in the near future!

Of course the Flames saw him as the BPA.
I'm just saying they are not in a position to draft based on size or position.

13 points in 12 games is a good comeback after 20 games missed.

You'd think there was an opportunity to with the players who were sliding because of the early left field picks.

No, I’d think that would make teams hold onto their picks. To land talent late. Doesn’t that make sense?
More than anything, I’d think that the GM would look into these obvious possibilities.

I think he knows what he says. Are you suggesting he was right then and wrong now because now he’s saying something you disagree with based on nothing?
Sandman has provided more interesting and in-depth info on this draft class than anyone here by a mile. If he likes the pick, then there’s a lot to like about the pick.
End of the day it’s just another player you get to cheer for, so get in line and enjoy the ride.

You are correct, I've been advocating for other players, but I've also defended Honzek in the Draft thread before today. I didn't get who I wanted, but I'm also not a pro scout. Doesn't mean I'm not happy with this pick, and concentrating on why it's a good pick.

If the draft is widespread agreed to be deep, then each team's scouting could have fairly different internal lists.
Just because the draft order doesn't follow what we see from the media doesn't mean everyone screwed up and went off the board. Though some still probably did.

Yeah, if Conroy comes to me and asks it suggests he's fine with whoever and not who I'm looking at anyway. So chances are he's not picking him. and if it's true that you can throw a net over the mid range and they are about equal, no one's trading because they are content with the board.

Agree. I think it was a solid pick having never watched him. Offensive numbers are elite compared with other forwards who were taken in the first round. Guy was coming over to a new continent, broken English, adjusting to a completely new culture and produced immediately.
