Really should have held TT until the deadline and gotten an awesome return like we did with Cammalleri.

But it's also fun to remember that Cammi went on a heater after that TDL and landed himself a 5x5M contract a few months later. Which goes to show that GMs often prefer to overpay in AAV instead of giving up quality assets.

While this is a generally weak UFA class, it is chalk full of middle 6 wingers not dissimilar to Toffoli (aside from his career year):

Bertuzzi
Domi
Compher
Bunting
Tatar
Zucker
Barbashev
Kerfoot
Rodrigues
Kessel
Sheary/Drouin/Fast/JVR/Bjudstad/Sundqvist/etc

Toffoli is likely better than most of those guys, but the point is you can probably find a poor-man's-Toffoli next week at a similar AAV without giving up any assets.

Slight but meaningful difference. I don't believe anyone has leaked any trade demands. Players, have stated their lack of desire to re-sign with the team, after their current contracts are up.

People are then able to put together, that the Flames will likely want to trade these assets, given our current situation. But is a little different, while likely not a good gamble, the players haven't said they want out, just that they want to explore options for next contracts. But it is different than knowing a GM as a player on the team that doesn't want to be there in the here and now, you usually don't want those players on the ice in the upcoming season. Needing to get something for an asset before July 1 next year is a different situation.

I assume that other trades will bring in a few younger players as well as more picks, (23 or 24 - who knows). I don't expect Rooney in the lineup. More like Ruzicka at C and a new 4th line winger. Or maybe Pelletier will be 4th and a new guy will be up the line.

Gotta say, the lineup looks faster: Dube, Coleman, Sharangovich all have speed and only Huberdeau is actually slow.

I agree, the Flames need to bring in some players who are NHLers tank or not.
It is already a much younger team which is exciting. Though that first line is looking suspicious. Loosing Lindholm really puts a hole.

I also think that Phillips sees a path forward for himself with the Flames. Though I am still skeptical of his transfer to the NHL level.

The centre issue was always the big concern with Backlund and Lindholm in the same contract status. Now, both Coronato and Dube (and now Sharangovich) can play centre. But if that's going to happen they should be there now and get their reps in.
