I think that you'll see Yegor play with Huberdeau more often than not, and I for one am really excited to see it. I think he's about to break out and become the kind of finisher that Huberdeau was looking for last year.

Yeah I can see why people are underwhelmed but don't see how it's a terrible trade.
I think Sharangovich + 2nd would have been more ideal and probably a more "even" trade.
But New Jersey also didn't have a 2023 2nd - so then you have to ask if you'd rather have a 23 3rd vs 24 2nd. And I think that's probably a pretty interesting debate, deeper draft and one year sooner...I see why they might like 80 this year vs say 56 next year.
And Sharangovich is coming off a poor season, but if he had a 3rd straight 24 goal and 45 point season, with almost all of that production being at 5v5, then he's probably not even on the market.
And I give Conroy props for making a deal he knew he'd probably be critized for ... one complaint I had with Treliving is sometimes maybe he held on too long because he always felt like he needed to win the trade by a landslide but sometimes here is value to getting the business done quick too.

A bunch of plugs like Bastian and Lazar got more playoff games than he did. So it’s not just Meier that pushed him out
Something went wrong with him last year.
Obviously Conroy thinks he can fix it. We’ll see

He still strikes me as the Devils' version of Ruzicka, including being sat for stretches at a time last year. Hopefully they can both take a step next year, or at least one of them.

I do quite like Sharangovich but still feels underwhelming. Devils fans are certainly thrilled with the move

When viewed in a vacuum, I don’t like this trade (as I’ve said).
…if it’s part of a bigger play though where Connie continues to drop off old players, gain younger players and picks - even if they aren’t fantastic picks or young players if the market sucks, it’s still a net positive in my eyes.
The team needs picks, and the market is what it is, so to your point about Conroy getting business done whereas Treliving did not - I agree. I just want to see it continue tomorrow, even if the packages are less than ideal (like this one). This organization needs picks and youth and they also need to stop paying older players on contracts they aren’t worth.

Ruzicka never had back to back 24 goals and 45 point seasons (pro-rated for 20-21 since not Sharangovich's fault the season was shortened.)
Not sure they are really comparable players.

jeez I'm not "comparing" him to those two guys, the same way I'm not comparing TT to Iginla or JayBo. Just that the trade feels kind of similar, we trade away a high end clearly established NHLer for a guy that's been in a team's system or prospect pipeline for a while.
"He's one of our top prospects, we swear!"

I think the issue is that he’s not well suited for a bottom 6 spot. And after Meier was brought in, the top 6 in jersey was pretty tough to crack for him.
(Just what has been mentioned earlier on here)

IDK I think you’re just trying to ‘what about’ any discussion over his being scratched in the playoffs. Comparing his performance to Bennett in the playoffs is honestly just absurd.
We got a young player with some potential but a concerning trend line. I was kind of hoping Toffoli gets you more than that as he was probably the team’s best player last year.
But I’m all for giving him a chance.

Being scratched in the playoffs was likely not a knock on the player; NJ leaned on experience and key guys because the wanted to win. Kind of like D.Sutters refusal to play certain guys because he favored vets.
Conroy's comments that they felt this is a player ready to pop is a good indication they see more.

The reaction across the Flames and NHL pundits seems to be "underwhelming*. I have to agree. Struggling RFAs with arb rights are easy enough tk acquire and usually involve giving up a middle round pick. They aren't the centre piece of a return when you trade your scoring leader on a great low risk contract.
It isn't the worst return. But it feels like an attempt to tread water rather then maximize value. It feels like a GM trying to check to many boxes (get younger, bigger, and replace Toffoli production). It also feels like a bit of Feaster era wishful thinking.

Why did this trade have to be made today? You coulda held onto him till the TDL and got a couple 2nds or a 1st. Seems rushed for no reason.

Better trade Pelletier then since he got beat out by plugs like Lewis and Lucic and Duehr for playing time.

Meh. Ruff made some bad decisions in the playoffs. Travis Green will be the next head coach there for a reason. Not my first choice to takeover but you know why they hired him.
