No it’s more likely that he didn’t counter aggressively enough, again obviously just guessing here. He has a new relationship management thing he has to get going with 31 GMs and the establishment of a reputation to consider. But, put yourself in NJ’s shoes. If he asked you for a 2nd, would you still do the trade? I would.

Your stat is irrelevant and doesn't mean anything, if you actually watched the Devils play more than twice a year you wouldn't have made your original post, and for sure wouldn't have doubled down on an awful take.

What stat are you talking about? He was healthy scratched for 9 of 12 playoff games. That’s not a “take”. Get over yourself.
Your claim is that he wasn’t good enough for their top six. And he’s not a “bottom six” player.
You’re welcome to your definition of bottom six, I suspect it differs from how I think about it. I guess if he’s not good enough for the Flames top 6 he will be scratched here as well.

94 & 92 was enough to get in this year. Why jump to 96-100?

Vegas and Seattle are great cases for what can happen when you give under-appreciated guys more opportunity.
You’d think people would’ve learned watching Bennett in the finals. But nope, new guy is done at 25 and forever a mediocre 3rd liner.

Or he did counter aggressively enough and got the best deal, because he’s been an NHL executive for 10 years and around the league for 30 and knows exactly how these things work and exactly what he’s doing.
Or the guy with 0 NHL management experience knows better.
Honest question, what do you think is more likely?

It was below average this season and the Flames needed 95 the east is irrelevant
Snake is set at 96 for a reason...with lots of up and coming teams closer to 100 seems likely

Just guessing here too
But
Perhaps the flames did press for a second but considering jersey doesn’t have a first this year, that might be enough for them to walk from the deal

Yeah that’s definitely possible. I think I’d walk in that instance and see what’s available tomorrow then. Or request a higher pick for a future year. Either or.

Yeah Sam Bennett was a healthy scratch for the Flames multiple times too... doesn't mean a guys career is done

Toffoli has averaged 08.ppg in 218 games since leaving LA. He had a manageable cap hit where the Flames could have retained and no trade protection. A lot of talk about leadership qualities from St. Louis, Sutter, world championship captain. It feels like he should be worth quite a bit more.
If it was a 2nd I would have been fine with it but not a big fan. I will say the Flames do lack forwards upfront in the 23-27 age range so this helps with that

Trades like this won't make a difference in the grand scheme of things. So many other factors have to go right for a team to be successful that dissecting a single trade such as this is pointless.

It’s probable that someone offered a late 2nd. I’d rather have the affordable 6’2 center 24 goal scorer and a mid 3rd myself though.

Reminder that 35% of mid to late round 1sts dont play 100 games let alone have 20 goal seasons

So can Ruzicka, who also had a decent production 5 on 5 in a much smaller sample size. Yet I would be pretty ecstatic if we could trade Ruzicka and a 3rd for even a 60 pt player making $4.5M. We paid a 2nd and a 3rd for a ~40pt Jarnkrok at the deadline.
Also, when it come to an increased role, there are many players on the Flames that could potentially benefit from it. Starting from Mangiapane and Dube getting PP1 time, to prospects like Pelletier, Coronato, Ruzicka, and maybe even Phillips (if he's back). That's why I personally don't expect anything over 40pts from the shiny new toy. Furthermore, in this discussion we're sticking to points, while Toffoli definitely had a much greater effect at both generating chances and preventing chances against. That's why in my opinion NJ won the trade by a mile.

I doubt Toffoli is seen as a missing ingredient for many contending or near contending teams, frankly. Those teams all have wingers who are better. Some of them, like Colorado, lack a good 2C. Some of them like Toronto need more help on D. But a slow winger who has a scoring touch? Just not a pressing need for most of them.

I wasn’t suggesting either or, I was suggesting Shara plus the 2nd. Just an opinion, and I’m guessing based on the wide spread general reaction NOT on CP, I would think others agree with my assessment of the value.

I can see this guy being a frolik type player. Not elite but very complimentary to a top line.
Does anyone have a highlight pack of this guy ??
