If Sharangovich was a 2nd I’d be more on board with this deal. Him as a player and what it likely means is the most disappointing part of the deal.

3rd in an elite draft and potentially 2nd line c/w RFA for an impending UFA.
Things have to go the right direction with the assets but hard to call it awful.
Every one looking for a "1" is going to dock it sexy points though.

Time will tell, but man I don't like seeing that type of asset go out on a swing like this for a player who isn't exactly on an upward trajectory. The part that worries me the most is that our professional scouts have not been particularly good - and this seems to be a trade that comes from them.

I can't evaluate the trades based on what I want the Flames to do which is rebuild.
To me it's clearly a signal that:
A) They aren't going to retain salary (they want to remain competitive)
B) They aren't looking for purely draft picks in trades
As I posted I think 12 months ago we all would have celebrated this exact same trade...so tough to really criticize it now.
I always want to buy low and sell high and feels like the Flames did that a little bit here. Wish it was a 2nd instead of a 3rd but ah well.

Good age, not a bad size, creates a lot of cap room and also they just made NJ better maybe others in that conference will wake up and want to get in on trades.

Yeah, so throw my desire/hopes of picks in this draft out the window.
I don't like this as a hockey trade based on Sharangovich's end in New Jersey. Absolutely could be wrong - as sometimes players do get that fresh start and things work, but putting Toffoli out the door for a reclamation project is rough.
I also now think (painfully) that a Hanifin/Duclair trade makes sense based on this one. That type of deal seems to be what the Flames are after.

Since they’ll need to pay the new guy more than $2M, that $4M is less than $2M.

That's how you cash in on a great season. We must have gotten at least a 1st? right? a couple of 2nds? oh a 3rd, and a question mark that still has to go through arbitration. Sweet.
Well a lot of GM's mess up the first trade... hopefully the 2nd would be better.
I still don't get why they haven't kept Toffoli until the deadline. Especially if we consider it cost us a 1st, and a good prospect(former 2nd) to acquire him.

I like it.
Toffoli wasn’t gonna sign here so the alternative is keep him and lose him for nothing. Or get an 80th overall pick in a deep draft, and a young player with potential.
I’ll take that deal all day.

Connie fleeced on his first deal. Should of been a second. 73 point player and that's all you can get.

I'd definitely have held out for the 2nd.
2023 2nd + Sharangovich is good value.
This trade i'd say is OK value with a chance of being good.

The Flames should probably hold on to both Hanafin and Lindholm if this is the market. There will be better offers at the trade deadline from teams loading up for a cup run.

Flames playing 4D chess here. Acquire players who aren't good enough to have any form of negotiation power since they were healthy scratched so you can sign them for cheap. Works well if you get them off waivers, not so much when you give up your top scorer for them.

How do you know Toffoli is gonna have a repeat year though? He's also already 31 and at the end of the day flames got younger. I'd take that trade any day.

To be fair, he lost his roster spot to TimoTime.
But still don't like this for the Flames.

And when we are hanging onto the second wildcard spot by a hair do you really believe we will sell?
