So we can expect little action as Conroy does not want his first deal to be a bust? Sounds about what you would expect.

If they weren’t underwhelming wouldn’t a trade already be made!
“ Thanks for meeting our asking price but now we’re going to sit around and see what else is out there “
That’s not how you negotiating with other GMs .

If you look at the trades league wide so far, teams seem to be protecting their draft picks and taking lessor players with retained salary.
So when people say we could get guys like Wright or a top 10 pick or Johnson for a guy like Lindholm, be prepared to be disappointed.
If Lindholm wants to stay, it might be worth signing him if all we are getting is late firsts and depth players for him.

Conroy should offer Lindholm to Colorado for MacKinnon and Makar. They can have a 5th round pick too if they really want.

Seems like starting with Vladar would be a good way to get his feet wet.

Also, as was said by someone else in another trhead, it may be that some teams are waiting to see what the draft board looks like as their picks come up. If they aren't happy, they might start trading.

I suspect the goalie market is very soft. Vegas just proved you can ride a myriad of mediocre goalies all the way to the cup if you have a good team in front of them.

I do wonder how much Flames are willing to retain.
I'm hard pressed to believe that Lindholm, Hanifin, Toffoli, or Backlund with 25-50% retained wouldn't have a strong market available to them.

Most teams are capped out. Look at the hoops LA had to jump through to free the space to sign Gavrikov and then deal for Dubois.
It took three separate deals (one of them a three-way trade) to move out:
Peterson $5 mil
Walker $2.7 mil
Durzi $1.7 mil
Iafallo $4.0 mil
Dealing $5 mil players who need big extensions next year for 1st rounds picks seems wild fantasy in this market.

1sts are the foundation of the returns for each of those players, or it should be.
Don't budge until you get at least that.

So, the strategy is just to assemble the deepest team in the league and then you don't need to worry about goaltending?
Sure, easy.

Yeah, I'm now a firm believer that unless you can draft and develop an elite starting goalie - don't invest anything in goalies. Don't trade for them, don't get in free agent bidding wars - just look for the value. Moneyball the goaltending position.
Cycle through them on short term deals. Build the team in front of them.

Other GM's know they have Conroy at a disadvantage so it makes sense that the offers are underwhelming. All Connie can do is stand his ground and wait for a better offer.
