Not great for LA I don’t think. The 2nd makes it a win for the Jets.

Trade. Him.
He's been a good soldier for a lot of years. But non-committal on staying in conjunction with the rest of the exodus combined with his age and inevitable decline in production?
Buh-bye Zebulon! So long, and thanks for all the picks!
This groveling by Conroy with no 'drop-dead-date' and 'we want to sign him' and 'money is no object' BS?
You shut that #### down i-goddamned-mmediately. No exceptions.

Well yeah, of course. But my point is Lindholm is the better player. If you want to give the same money to a lesser player just because he’s younger then that’s up to you.
For the record if it was up to me Lindy wouldn’t be signed to an 8 year deal by the Flames. Which would most likely be a deal breaker for him. But he is worth at least as much as what PLD signed for. For at least the next 4 or 5 years anyway imo.

Right, and thats the crux of the matter.
Lindholm wants a giant final pay-day, and I dont begrudge him that. Just not here.
If he wanted $8.5x4 I'd even mull it over. But if he wants 8 years, unfortunately age and the declining production that comes with it are factors that have to be considered.
They have to stop paying players for what they've done rather than what it is anticipated that they can do.
You cannot have too many elderly players under-performing their contracts without having a significant number of players over-performing theirs. Because if you dont, thats when you're drafting 16th.

I even said in my post I wouldn’t sign him to an 8 year deal. Not sure why I got that response. I’m not advocating for a long term contract for him.

No, no. I understood that and I agree.
My counter-point was that I dont think he's looking for anything less than Max-Term, so the point is moot.
Lindholm, IMO, has been under-valued and under-paid for most of his career, this is his last shot and I have no doubt that he plans on taking it.
Regardless of what the dollar figure starts with, unless theres a serious screwup, he's going for Max Term.
Hey, if he wants to sign for $4M for 8 years I'll hear him out. Its not going to happen though.
Hence: Trade. Him.

An unbelievable haul for a guy who publicly asked for a trade and completely disappeared in the playoffs again. I had to hand it to chevy, when he does make trades he usually does a great job

So the King's gave Kopitar Pld Danault and Byfeild down the middle can probably turn Byfeild into a winger and still have Fiala Arvidson Kempe on the wing.
Not bad.

I don’t really know what to think of this trade? If Villardi stays injury free and keeps progressing this will work out for Winnipeg. PLD did request trades twice but to be fair he played in Columbus and Winnipeg. The Jets are clearly not rebuilding and looking to make hockey deals.

It does make a difference though. Look at the difference between Giordanos Norris trophy season and the following one after. Every year counts, and they make a difference.

It’s doesn’t make a difference in the sense that I don’t want the Flames to hand out another retirement contract. Just don’t do it. Take the assets and move on.

Ok, I get what you’re saying.
As for myself, I hate the Oilers style blow it up lose on purpose rebuilds. I don’t respect them, and it goes against everything in my being to build a team to lose on purpose. I’m intense when I play a game of cards. No way I would ever try and lose at hockey.
