Kid turned 22 in January and has 2 full seasons under his belt at 30 poits per year. You can make a living on picking up there types of players just before they break out. I don't mind this for the Avs and they could draft well and win the trade. But this is a great deal for Montreal.
This is also great timing for the Habs as he is an RFA that likely does not get paid.
As for people saying this is too early in the rebuild, they can still make moves to continue the rebuild and add guys like Newhook.
Maybe they recover some picks by trading some vets and still draft top 5-10
Avalanche were desperate for a centre to step up and fill Kadri's shoes last year, if Newhook was capable, they wouldn't be trading him nor acquiring RyJo.
I think it's an overpay by the Habs, and I like it.
Meh. Sometimes players do improve as they get older. The Flames basically got Kiprusoff when he blew his chance with SJ.
Lombardi was never the same after the Hatcher hit.
I don't agree with that. Lombardi had barely played in the NHL before that hit. He had 5 decent seasons after that. IiRC it wss a knee or thigh injury at the World Hockey Championships around 2011 that pretty much did him in.
As for this deal I guess we see...at draft time the sentiment can be that you just gave up future Aho and Hintz for Newhook...when it could prove to be Mason McDonald and Hunter Smith. But again we have a rebuilding Canadian team trading multiple pieces for a young player. They might sign him for term and have him pop like Lindholm. He might just continue being what he has been and require a heavier salary to be that.

In a perfect world, the Avs would take back Kadri for the 31st OA and it would be like a complete reset of what Treliving did with Monahan, our first and Kadri last summer
Guys, I am pretty confident Kadri is not going to be moved. The return to Colorado in his mind has sailed when he signed in Calgary. Many of his family members that were still living in the London area have moved to Calgary and Kadri is a big family guy. He has also established himself in the Muslim community there. I know a part of the reason Kadri chose Calgary was it is a Canadian team and he wanted to come back to Canada. He has his money, he has his Cup, but more importantly he has his family all there now and a NMC. The only team I think Kadri would waive for is the Leafs. I think we need to accept that no matter how much it would be nice to dump that contract it isn't going to happen. I would love to be wrong here though.

In a perfect they'd take back Kadri, period.
Unless Calgary sells him at a discounted salary, Kadri is going nowhere for any value.
