And goaltenders.....this franchise spent about 3/4 of his tenure with stopgap netminding, despite emerging from a rebuild.

It is very easy to look back at BT's tenure and be critical, but the more you do, the more obvious it is that he was very average, despite being lauded as far greater than that by many.

At least some of what is happening now has to fall at his feet. Some clearly is on the coaching staff and some most certainly on ownership. Either way, you don't get into this hot mess level the franchise is now at without massive blunders at all levels of the organization.

The barn burner crew has hit on this perfectly - you don't just get to this point overnight. Management and ownership knew darn well this locker room and team was in chaos well before trouble was brewing and didn't do enough to fix the problem. If they didn't, then shame on them for not seeing it.

Who is the top prospect for 2024? Is it another generational talent like Bedard?

If so, all-in for the tank.

Not Bedard like but better than the Power/Slafosky #1 selections.
So Jack Hughes level.

Somehow it only cost Philly a 6th round pick to dump ~$7.1M in cap, yet the Flames had to give up a 1st to dump less. Is Briere the real wizard here?

One thing I won't miss about Treliving is his fixation on players. He pursued Kadri for years. He probably would have spent a stupid sum on Josh Anderson still. Watch out Leafs!

Eiserman looks like a franchise level talent too.
Same with Demidov and Kiviharju

The Flyers also retained $3.5 mil for 3 years. That’s huge. And not something Treliving would have been interested in doing last off-season when he was building a team to win now. The Flyers could do it because they’re rebuilding.

Ah, right, sorry it was $10.5M in cap for a 6th.

And Treliving gave up a 1st because the rest of the league knew he really really really wanted Kadri.

And people still defend this guy.

Hayes is a real player too . He’s a great (good) 3rd line Center for 3 million

Monahan was coming off multiple surgeries and was a pure dump

A pure dump the Habs just re-signed for ~$2M.

Wonder how long some folks will spend their time complaining about the former GM of the Flames?
Is that a 6 month thing? Longer?

I am going to guess that it will be longer than 20 years.

People on the board are still complaining and loosing their shorts about stuff that Button did 20+ years ago and how it is messing up our current team.

Top-10 looks excellent, but it’s too early to tell what the rest of the draft will look like. It’s definitely not as deep as this year’s draft, that’s for sure.

As far as I’m concerned people have the obligation to complain about what treliving and group did based on what they said at the time. Look at the Kadri signing at the time. Bunch of sheep claimed it was amazing. Now to come to the realization it was crap. When a few of us thought it was terrible they were smacked down. Look at the then unknown sec being hit down for claiming it was a terrible deal right away. It handcuffs the franchise for ages. If you complained back then you should have every right to rub it in how bad it is now. To think they dealt a 1st to rid themselves of Monahan just to be strapped to Kadri. I’ll keep blabbing because so many shot the notion down as being a Debbie downer when it was fairly obvious it was bound to fail. Only it failed beyond expectations.

Probably not as long as people who complain about complaining.
