The good selling time was weeks ago. This is too late. We're being offered garbage because we came to the market as everyone was packing up.
Should have started the sell at the deadline. I would have preferred before but even starting then would be better than starting a few days ago in earnest, as has been reported.

You have to think Backs is frustrated with the organization.
He’s been a good player for the organization, but he was always playing ahead of where he should have been on the depth chart. He’s been here, front row, for all the incompetence that we as fans have also had enough of.
It’s time for him to go elsewhere and try to win, he suffered here long enough.

I mean I can kinda understand the vinegar here from Backs, dude played it the right way his entire time here then got snubbed on the captain spot from the very guy that drafted him. Dude is 3rd all time games played for the Flames and was a guy that truly played the game with passion and fire a lot of the time especially in the back half of seasons. A change is as good as a rest sometimes and I think some guys do truly want to just try something different, all the power to Backs he was a fantastic Flame and will be a fantastic alumni when the time comes and I’ll be rooting for him unless he’s playing against Calgary of course.

Boston will need a Bergy style replacement for the 200 foot game and PK and I think Backs could fill that role with a reduction in offence which is fine. Hoping he ends up in Pittsburgh, Boston or Carolina.

Backlund has been awesome for our organization. Who hasn't liked that picture of him banging the glass in Vancouver? Guy just had a career season in what many would consider his twilight. Wins the King Clancy and ponders his future to reporters.
Thank you Backlund for being a Flame and I will remember you always.
Hope we can get a good return for you as I am still a Flames fan first but you should not be spoken of negatively. You were the "captain" after Gio left.

I take that quote as the Flames telling Backlund he needs to sign or they are going to trade him so his quote of it being out of his hands sure sounds like he expects a trade.
Ultimately I think all these players with the exception of Hanifin and Toffoli are good to come back and play next year and see how it goes but also do not want to commit long term until they see how it is. The Flames fanbase and organization is scarred by the fact our last franchise player left for nothing and likely want to pivot. I know the fans certainly want to get assets for these guys.
Very stressful days for Conny right now

Yeah doesn't sound like a guy who is looking forward to staying. Hopefully doesn't affect the value coming back too much.

If we walk them all to the free agency they are walking imo. You don't reject a contract and play out the season only to come back a few weeks before you can go to free agency especially with a rising cap.
Lindholm holding the team hostage seems to be the issue as he's the main piece they want to sign. We know Hanifin and Toffolk are gone so they need to see what the Lindholm deal looks like.

Sounds to me like a guy who doesn’t care much for the contract that was offered from the Flames and in no way sees himself here past a year.
I guess we’ll see a year from now what kind of deal he gets but he might be disappointed.

Sounds like you’re sitting in the room with Conroy listening on the phone. Must be nice to know what’s actually being offered instead of just what the media is speculating about.

I don't see a 34 year old Backlund getting a raise unless he wants to go to a team trying to reach the floor.
If he badly wants to be captain he can sign a fair deal.

Hopefully they can trade Backlund to a contender. He deserves a shot at a cup.

Sure they will, but Boston has zero cap space and little to trade.

Nothing strange about it at all. Things are in Conroy's hands now (in other words, he'll be traded)

LOL. No matter what transpires, you take the 'the Flames are idiots" view. Now is the perfect time to be negotiating - this is when all teams have now sets their sites on next year's roster, and what they need to improve it. It is also the time when draft picks have the most value.
But you do you.

Lol. Weeks ago, during the playoffs? There has been almost no significant trades yet. Now (next 48hours) is when things happen.
Edit: ER beat me to it.

Backlund has always been first class. I wish him nothing but the very best. Send him to a contender.

Never would have thought but Backlund has been my favorite flame since Iggy left. Started watching the flames since that 04 run and have never looked back.
Wish that man and his family nothing but the best.
Get him a cup,
