Pathetically flawed is one thing, you might be onto something there… but to be a team owned over history to that same pathetically flawed team, is much worse. 5 rings to 1, 5 BoA’s to 1. When’s the last time you made it past round 1 besides that time McDavid scored in OT? 2004? You guys don’t have anything to say with regards to how bad the oilers have been. Now you’re looking at a rebuild and still crow about how bad the oilers are? Amazing.

Thank you for some sanity here.
Most of the comments are WAY over the top...whichever way they lean.

Not sure why this can't be done.
Iron out a trade assuming an extension. Allow other team to talk contract and agree verbally. Make the trade. New team formalizes and signs the contract after July 1. Since new team has his rights at that point, they would be allowed to sign him for 8 years at that point, right?

The draft may not be the ultimate deadline for the Flames, but once the draft passes, power shifts back in their direction.
Any time before camp, Lindholm can go to a new situation and get his 8x$8.5 in a sign and trade.
Once camp starts, all that risk goes back to the player, for both injury and performance.
I don’t see this lingering past the draft - too much smoke around it already for things to be left to burn.

In the same way that Staal and Dahlin have completed contracts. Iron out the extension with the agent. It will be signed July 1st. The acquiring team has a small level of risk but not sure why a player would agree to terms and then not sign.

I am pretty sure Lindholm has to be on the roster for the year before he can sign an 8-year deal.

Seriously there fella what are you doing here? You come in and crap on your arch rival and someone calls you out and now you come back with the 5 cups from 30+ years ago? Go back to your circle jerk with the sweatpants crew and enjoy the next couple years before your team heads back to the bottom once McDrai leave for greener pastures.

No, that has changed. As long as the player has a contract for the upcoming season, he can sign an 8-year extension with any team who holds his rights.

Yes, he’s not a guy who can count on GMs saying “look at his career numbers”. He’s not a high profile guy, despite being better than some guys with more name recognition for whatever reason (Horvat for example).
If he goes say, 60-65 points again, no way he makes what the Flames are offering him now.

Yes, that’s what I thought which made all the “sign and trade before July 1” talk seem strange to me.

Pretty much the Stone trade except that was mid season.

I know this is a dig at the Oilers, but it could basically be about us too.
Except for the city, they definitely have a ####tier town.
