For me it's 1) Dubois, 2) Lindy
I took it as a list of players most likely traded as opposed to a ranking of the best players who may be available for trade otherwise Hayes has no business being at the top of the list

Going to assume given what we’ve seen from Sec that convince him essentially means for less than he wants

Gotta try and trick him into an 8 year, $9.5 million AAV deal.

100%.

Time to move on. The idea of having to convince a player to stay here when the team is in the vulnerable state it is in just tells me it's over. I don't want a $9M Elias Lindholm on the team.

In what world is Hayes more valuable than Lindholm?

Carolina has had 4 top ten picks in the past ten years - but more of them play on the Flames than they do for the Hurricanes.

Outside of the Oilers (who took about 15 tries to get it right) its not exactly a huge correlation to being terrible and then winning.

The 2018 draft was 5 years ago:
1. Buffalo (still haven't made the playoffs)- still rebuilding
2. Carolina - they are good
3. Montreal - one of the worst teams in the league
4. Ottawa - still rebuilding
5. Arizona - still rebuilding
6. Detroit - still rebuilding
7. Vancouver - doing whatever they do
8. Chicago - still rebuilding
9. Rangers - they are good - although really none of their high picks worked out
10. Edmonton - 15 year rebuild finally ended.
2017 Florida picked in the top 10. Dallas picked third. New Jersey picked in first, Colorado picked 4th, Vegas 6th, Rangers 7th. That draft was a pretty good draft, if we are picking random drafts, for teams to rebuild within 5 years.

2019 is also a decent draft for teams who picked top 10 rebuilding quickly - New Jersey, Rangers, Colorado, Los Angeles and Edmonton.

2018 was a bad year for teams drafting top 10 and being able to rebuild quickly.

I get it for certain situations that you need to "convince" the person.

But Lindholm has been here 5 years. He understands the organization, the city, and the contract being offered to him. If he's not committed, and there is a strong market, then you need to move on.

Honestly he's a good player, but not good enough to really handcuff the franchise over the next week waiting for his decision.

Don't get hung up on the words, as they were the reporter's. The 'convince him' aspect here is likely exactly that: give him your best offer.

To me it also just makes no damn sense.

The "bones" of this team are bad. It's not like we're scrambling to find ways to keep a consistent playoff performing team together - we're digging in the dirt with our hands fighting like hell to keep a non-playoff/laughably ineffective playoff team together.

If we sign Lindholm, we're months away from being the 2020-Current San Jose Sharks in my eyes.

He is not but it would seem he is highly likely to get traded and that is how o view it.

It's got me, too.

You've got to squint really hard to convince yourself with Lindy back this is anything more than a fringe playoff team.

Perhaps there's just some media leveraging to help fuel better offers.

Center depth is so important.

If you can get Lindholm to stay on a deal that isn't crippling, that's a good thing.

Trim fat in other areas and get add futures from a different trade source.

The Flames need to play this to other teams that they are comfortable bringing these guys back this season. Ultimately if the Flames ran it back they could be a real solid team.

One thing that has annoyed the hell out of me on Twitter. Fans post these deals that fleece the flames for one of our UFA’s and then use the logic the Flames hand is forced like we have to make a deal with their team. Lindy/Toff have zero trade protection and amazing cap hits. Flames can be patient and shop these guys and get the deal they want. Some guys looking for fleece Conroy hopefully he holds strong and makes some great trades

I think thats the issue.

If he was going to sign to a fair deal we wouldn't be hearing about all these needs convincing and trade ideas.

LeBrun: Lindholm has still not told the Flames if he will or won't extend. Flames have discussed that they don't need to make this decision now.

!@#$.

LeBrun on insider trading said the Flames don't feel like they need to make a decision this week.

If the Flames feel like they still have a chance to sign Lindholm maybe this goes into late summer or September
