Must be nice having all that decaying communist architecture as your playground.

I can't remember the name, but I think it is a type of sport now, it was started in France I believe. Just a bunch of people run around urban areas using the land as their playground.

I haven't seen anyone in calgary doing it though.

It was featured in Casino Royale. The guy Bond was chasing through the construction site was the inventor and world champion.

This is Parkour, which is the original form of 'free movement' in which the point is to get from Point A to Point B as efficiently as possible.

Free running is the 'artistic' offshoot made by an originator of Parkour who wanted to make it more fancy and flippy.

This guy is a little fancy for normal Parkour, but in contrast to alot of free running stuff, this seems more along the efficient side

It's called Parkour and it's a really old thing that has been going on. Very popular in Europe, specifically France. There are several philosphies or different kinds.

Some kinds are about finding the fastest route from A to B nomatter the obstacles in your way...or innovative ways of getting away from people. Others are about finding innovative ways to use urban architecture and environments in movement.

It started out in the 90's when a few guys wanted to get from point A to B as the crow flies (straight line) which meant going over/under/through objects/walls etc. One of its main designs was to be running as if you was being chased. Making every single extra thing count to keep up your speed as to escape. No stopping after jumps etc, every move must flow into the next.
I tried this a few years ago and it was fun for about 5 minutes then i twisted my ankle and went to the pub.

That is amazing, but after reading the thread title, I was really expecting to see a photo of Willie Mitchell..
