Some brass don’t forget the trade request…
At least one team has inquired about Markstrom but they wanted retention +. your only have to get hot for 2 months and when Markstrom is on he can steal games… maybe next summer.
Conroy is meeting/met with Bubba this weekend.

I have also heard on Backlund that the Flames tabled a 2 year deal at a lower AAV than he is currently making. Backlund camp wants more term and an AAV around the same as his current deal. Flames have no interest in giving long term deals to anyone not named Lindholm.

Dumping Markstrom’s salary and opening up a spot does solve 2 big problems, but man that’s a tough decision if it requires using one of our retention slots.

See ya Backlund.
I'd be looking the deal Jordan Staal just signed, 2.9m AAV but 3 years instead of 4.

Just move on from Backlund. Sell high and get something of long-term value. Really surprised to hear the Flames having discussions with Phillips. Team needs to get bigger and they're having discussions with the smallest player in the game? Doesn't compute.

Despite all the catastrophes predicted on here, this tells me the Flames are being realistic in their evaluation and projections. Keep good players on good deals but stop with overpaying for players lower in the lineup.

I appreciate the information from Sec and Dissentower but every time they post what the club is doing/thinking it makes me less and less hopeful for the future.
It sure sounds like this is the same old same old, prioritize mediocrity rather than care about winning or doing what makes sense. If we end up going down the rebuild route we need it sounds like the Flames will do so kicking and screaming the whole time.

this is really great news. It means Conroy has learned from the mistakes of his predecessors and commons mistakes around the league. Makes me more optimistic having Craig in charge

I don’t see it that way. They have drawn pretty clear lines that they will pay for upper tier talent but won’t over pay for players on the second and third line or after the first defence pair. Acquire and keep talented players in reasonable deals. Don’t let players walk to free agency that have value this year. Don’t waste assets or cap space and keep drafting well. How many years did we spend second round picks on a defence man who may play 10 minutes a night? I see a fairly big change already.

There should be no discussion about re-signing guys like Lindholm and Backlund, they need to be sold for as much as possible this summer.
That is the concern I have because re-signing them is just chasing mediocrity.

Get draft picks. High ones. This should be do-able with the assets available. Just pull a Phoenix and get a #### load of picks.

Isn’t their perennial suckitude an argument against doing that?
