I feel the same. A new chapter of the Calgary Flames is coming and I'm looking forward to seeing what Conroy does.

One thing to keep in mind is that Conroy said they're looking to see who's available in the draft before making deals. That's fair and all but if the ball starts rolling and deals are happening, Conroy and Co. have to really keep in mind they may be frozen out of these deals. Hopefully the Flames draft sheet is similar to the general consensus out there that this is a generational draft, and they don't think a limited number of guys will be the impact ones only worth pursuing. If that's the case so be it, but I really hope they don't wait too long if there's something lucrative available. I can imagine a bunch of GMs getting fidgety given the lack of FAs this year.

One thing to add, is if Brad had to pay Montreal a 1st and retain salary to get rid of Monahan, and the Flames are willing to do the same, it would be nice to get a 1st back in some deal akin to that.

I can’t see it working if Conroy waits until he sees if a particular player is available before pulling the trigger on a trade.
Who knows if that trade is still there?

I’m sure Conroy is working hard on everything. He’s not going to go public with every text and call like come on people. Have a little faith things are being worked on. It’s probably not the simplest thing in the world to be running 5,000 different trade iterations and running cap simulations on 7 UFAs so if it’s taking time that’s understandable and these things are dynamic and fluid. Not to mention people are negotiating. It’ll work out.

Hit it right on the head. The same people here clamoring for a rebuild are going to be the first ones to bail when the rebuild brings some highly touted prospects who struggle at times in their initial years like all kids do.

Nah. I’m impatient because I want to know if they are re-tooling or going for a rebuild. Both options are very much in the mix right now.

Maybe they want to make sure the Flames are going that way and not trying to do the same old s***. Seems reasonable to want to know the general direction of the team for the next several years.

Well, there’s a broad stroke.
I’d suspect many clamouring for a rebuild simply see that capitalizing on our assets now could dramatically speed this thing up. And that it doesn’t need to stretch out so dreadfully long in mediocrity to get to the same destination.

I've got little to no patience with the Flames because with them, no news is usually bad news.
They need to be transparent with their intentions just like they want the players to be. It's just silly that everything hinges on Lindholm, what are they thinking at this point? This isn't an all-star roster that's been dominant and their forced to make tough decisions about who to keep. A few of the teams best players want out, keeping Lindholm isn't going to magically make this team amazing.

I really would just like to know what the plan is, because I'm sick of being a fan of a rudderless organization with no clear vision. Betting the house on overpaying for Lindholm's retirement contract feels like a continuation of that same lack of long-term organizational vision, not even a fortnite after being fed platitudes about asset management and culture change.
It honestly feels like the longer this drags on and the more we hear, the more it sounds like the same BS we've heard for years.

It's not a plan, it's a process.

18g/43pts playing 3rd/4th line center behind Aho ,Necas, and Jarvis. big, young, talented with room to improve. I'd take him.

Agreed, it’s like many ignore ice time and PP time in evaluating players.

Kotkaniemi is still a developing player, and he’s trending up. 6’3” center who can skate? Yes please.

I really don't know what to expect.
It all depends on the direction Conroy chooses to take.
If the Flames really do rebuild it should be pretty exciting whereas if they try and continue to re-sign the players they already have it may be extremely boring/disappointing.
There is a ton of available young talent to be had if ever we trade Lindholm, Toffoli, Hanifin, etc. But at the same time is the casual Flames fan ready for a rough 3-5 years.

I think the prizes everyone wants from the Flames are Lindy, Toffoli and Hanifin. With their contracts any team can add them if Flames retain salary. Backs and Vladar are less likely to draw the same interest as they are high paid for what they bring. It’s going to be a big week and I hope the Flames do this right and get younger and cheaper.
Also, there are few things as useless as an Athletic subscription. All the same news and speculation as everywhere else but behind a firewall. I only paid $20 for it but I won’t be renewing.
