64+ million is volunteer work?

The funny thing is these guys will get less from whichever club they land in than the Flames would've paid.

I don't know how you can piss on a great offer from Craig Conroy and Jarome Iginla. They're certainly being more generous than treliving would've been and negotiating in good faith.

Apparently in our search for "character" we somehow accumulated the worst possible group of players.

Oh well. Time to burn it to the ground and start over on the right foot with players that want to be here.

Since they couldn't return the favour the Flames owe them none with their next destinations.

Character guy made a mess and didn't want to clean it up.

Great guy. Wish him the best in T.O.!

Every team in the NHL (and every other pro sport) says character is important to them. There’s no reason to think any of them are more serious about that than others. Including the team you cheer for.

So I am hearing the Lindholm offer was indeed 8.5/yr x 8 years, NMC that turns into a M-NMC in later years of deal, I have no specifics when that would kick in. Lindholm camp is at $9.5M/yr x 8 years, full NMC. I am also told there is a rift between how each side would like bonus structure paid out. I am told the Flames really want to keep Elias Lindholm, wouldn't be surprised if final deal is around $9M/yr. My source's expectation is they will reach a deal rather than a Lindholm trade, organization really feels he is key piece going forward.

Why?

Rebuild or not, Lindholms don't grow on trees.

This would be a massive mistake, which of course means the Flames will find a way to make it happen.

Lindholm isn’t a player that hurts you as he gets older .

I wouldn’t sign him because I don’t think this team is anywhere close and he’ll be post apex by time we compete , but signing Lindholm would be the least annoying thing this team would have done in my mind the last 2 years

First, it shows the Flames aren’t actually committed to the rebuild we need, so they either continue to chase mediocrity or are forced down a path they don’t want to go down.

Second, with the bad 30+ contracts we already have adding another one is a terrible way to build a team, especially with the return we could get from a Lindholm deal.

Yeah, I never had the sense a full rebuild was happening. A re-tool was almost certainly in the works. Honestly, there's no reason why Lindholm and Huberdeau shouldn't have worked together. With less restrictive coaching, it probably will work. The management have a much better view of this, getting to see every practice and scrum, than we do.

9 and under, I'm here for it. Anything over 9? Meh.

Lindholm is my favorite Flames player, I really want him to stay, but I also embrace the rebuild like no other.

Keep Lindholm, fine. Gotta ditch Kadri and Backs though. I've said it for a while now, of all the players you can dish out a long term contract Lindholm is the top of the list. The rest have to go though.

Signing lindholm to big 8 year contract guarantees we stay in the mushy middle.

I just don't see how a core built of 30+ year old lindy, huberdeau, kadri, coleman, weegar and markstrom can compete for anything except a wildcard spot.

Atleast all of us are used to it..
